December 5, 2006
LONDON (AP) -- Roger Federer and Amelie Mauresmo received the International Tennis Writers Association's Player of the Year and Ambassador for Tennis awards on Tuesday.
Federer won both honors for the third consecutive year.

The top-ranked Swiss star won a tour-high 12 titles in 2006, including three Grand Slams: Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and Australian Open.
Mauresmo won her first major titles this season, at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
ITWA also praised the players for their efforts to bring new fans to tennis and to promote the sport.

Let's just get it out of the way and give Federer, the International Tennis Writers Association's Player of the Decade and Ambassador for Tennis awards.

I really wish Roger would win the French so "they" can stop talking about Pete Sampras being the best ever...he's so not!

Heck, I really wish Mauresmo would win the French...

Had to be either Amelie or JuJu for the prize, both equally deserving. But the writer's chose the one who won 2 GS titles. So, with that being said, she deserved most. =)

Congrats Amelie.

YAY!

I always love to read the names Federer and Mauresmo together! A just don't like to see them in the same category when it comes to RG, go figure why.

Merci Amélie!

Delighted for Amelie although I'm not sure I wouldn't have chosen Justine myself. But it is thoroughly deserved.
