TENNIS CANADA: Everyone's opinion is needed.

TENNIS CANADA: Everyone's opinion is needed.
Especially Canadians!

What is your impression of Canadian Tennis? Do you know or care about Stephanie Dubois or Aleksandra Wozniak?

Has any Canadian Tennis player [besides Daniel Nestor ] done anything great in your lifetime that you can remember?

Has anyone heard that Tennis Canada is starting a tennis academy hoping to source out the pre-teen talent and produce more top players by hiring elite coaches?

I wish Canada would become more of a tennis powerhouse, but I think there are some players who have potential to have good careers

to be honest, the only achievements I know are that they advanced into the World Group II of Fed Cup and that Marie-Eve beat Na Li @ Rogers Cup last year

Other than for Daniel , I really don't have too much faith in Canadian tennis.

Re: TENNIS CANADA: Everyone's opinion is needed.

Much of it if I think due to the lack of funding. Desipte great effort (like their rexall centre), ultimately it comes down to who has more money. Take LTA and their recent announcement for example, much of the money was poured down into hiring top notch coach. Also, I think it is the marketing, the advertisements that they put on TSN just sucked. Seriously, who in the world knows who is Frank Dancevic (hell I can't even spell his name right, i think) is, and Daniel won't be around the circuit for long I think. So they have to seriously do something other than that. Furthermore, Canada, being such a large country is hard to gather and train talent. Just the living cost is sky high and hard to handle for Tennis Canada who is no USTA, LTA or Russian or French tennis feds. So I think Tennis Canada should focus on setting up smaller local training posts across Canada and focus on discovering and training new talents rather than centralize the training in Ontario.

Carling Bassett!

But tennis is Canada is a very low priority and the junior program here needs an awful lot of work

During the US Open series they announced an elite tennis academy and hired 2 world class coaches. Anyone here anything more about this?

Re: TENNIS CANADA: Everyone's opinion is needed.

I closely follow our best players, Aleks, Steph, Frank etc. and I think they have potential to be top 50 players eventually. I know a lot about Carling and Helen, so it's not like we've never had good players. I think a lot of it has to due with lack of funding that stems from no real desire for lots of young Canucks to play professional tennis.

Aleks is very talented and is making waves in the ITF 50Ks.
I know a lot of Canadians, but am not a fan of many.
I like Cretu, Dubois & El Tabakh.
I can't see any current Canadians being a major threat for Tier IIs-Grand Slams.

the hockey is hiding a little bit tennis lol
I think in the future we will have some nice players
Wozniak is now top 100 following by Steph dubois
They have to develop players in the early stage of their life

I really enjoy Stephanie and Aleks and would love to see them win more 50K's and Tier IV's. On the documentary I saw, they were speaking like it's time to look at our most talented 10-12 year olds as apparantly that is the time that they need to see a world class coach (like Lansdorp or Bollieterri) to groove their strokes, otherwise it's too late.

I wanted them to talk about improving Stephanie and Aleks but basically I think they were saying it's too late for them and we need to look at the future!

A question for the Canadians - who is considered the better prospect in your country out of Aleks Wozniak and Stephanie Dubois?

Re: TENNIS CANADA: Everyone's opinion is needed.

I don't think there are any players of the calibre of Darling Carling Bassett or Hurricane Helen Kelesi on the horizon ( why did all '80s players have nicknames ? ) Carling was the only Canadian to go top 10 of course whilst Helen made the top 20. Wozniak can probably go a bit higher than she is currently in the rankings. Dubois will find it harder. And nobody in Canadian tennis will ever surpass Carling in the big hair stakes :
