Q&A with Venus and Serena Williams

Q&A with Venus and Serena Williams

The Williams sisters took women's tennis by storm in the 1990s and still make headlines. Serena, 25, and Venus, 26, have combined for 12 Grand Slam singles titles and each has been ranked No. 1 in the world. Though injuries, fashion and other artistic endeavors have crept in, they are champions and want to give back. The McDonald's Williams Sisters Tour will end Dec. 7 in Charlotte and benefit local and Ronald McDonald House charities. The exhibition match will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. For information, call 800-495-2295 or visit CharlotteBobcatsArena.com.

Q. What was it about this tour that was attractive to you?
VENUS: With us it's all about helping and having an opportunity to give back. ... It's also a joy to see smiles on children's faces who might not have had a chance to see us play otherwise.

Q. Do you find outside distractions taking you away from the game?
VENUS: Personally, I don't find myself moving away from tennis. ... I don't see myself pulling away from tennis until I can't do it anymore.

Q. How did you choose Denver, New Orleans and Charlotte?
SERENA: We've done major cities around the country, it just seemed like it was time to give Denver, New Orleans and Charlotte a chance. ... We try to go to areas where we've never been before to give fans a chance to see us play.

Q. Will fans be treated to you wearing original creations?
VENUS: I don't think so, unfortunately. That would mean I would have to get into my sewing room now. ... Maybe I'll pull out a retro dress for fun.

SERENA: They'll be treated with me. I'll break out the Nike stuff, the new line I have. I'll definitely bring it out for the Williams Sisters Tour.
