Casey Dellacqua - Game for the top 100?

I think I actually saw her against Davenport at the Australian, but I don't remembering being particularly impressed. I kind of get annoyed with her scheduling...ranking wise it would seem she should be able to transition from the 25Ks she has built her ranking on and move up into the higher level challengers, but she hasn't. She's been pretty dominant again this year on the circuit down under, reaching three finals thus far, (winning one last week over Grandin, and reaching two finals, losing to Erakovic and Kops-Jones) and it would appear she's going to reach another final at least, as she faces Widmer, and then Natalie Grandin or Nadja Pavic. Personally, I wish she would move on. Maybe I'm just bitter because she kind of got in the way of some of my favorite players, including Grandin and Sunitha Rao over the years. But maybe it's a habit of the Australian girls - Evie and Rachel have done it also. I guess it guarentees you a spot in the Aussie Maindraw if anything. What do you think?

Re: Casey Dellacqua - Game for the top 100?

I saw her play that same match, and as you stated ... she didnt play that well. But i think she was nervous! Other than that match i havent seen her play, but im sure that against other girls she would do okay ... I see her being a 75-100 player ... thoughts?

yeah, she definitely could be ranked top 100! it just depends on her mentality, she has the game, but i think she needs to metally toughen up

after against Davenport, it will be tough to get into top 100....Even she said that she needs to play the top players more often to get experience etc...

Yes she is capable of being ranked in the top 100 imo.
She actually hits the ball really hard and even serves quite well.
I am not sure about her movement though...
I think Casey is taking time to mature her game, but she romps a lot of these girls in the 25k series in Australia, so i assume she is at least above that level.

she definitely can reach the top 100 if she becomes stronger mentally and as she gains more experience that will come. if she works hard enough she can get there although i doubt she has top 60 potential.... time will tell though

Re: Casey Dellacqua - Game for the top 100?

top 100 she is quite capable of making i reckon on these conditions though:
- she's gotta play more tour events outside of the ITF ones in Australia & have some wins over top 100 players consistently.
- she needs 2 improve her movement plus 2 keep on improving her groundies & net play
- she needs 2 develop herself mentally
- not 2 put 2 much pressure on herself
- have the belief 2 achieve great success in tennis

if she's able 2 do all these things then top 100 is not out of her reach. hope she can do this. i'm not expecting her 2 break in2 the top 100 just yet though. just tryin 2 be realistic.

Re: Casey Dellacqua - Game for the top 100?

if she can gain a few wins over top 120 players i think she will get the confidence to play in higher level itf tournies.... hopefully a win in a wta event this summer in australia? its not impossible and i agree she needs to improve her footwork ...

do you think players (like casey) read these things?

May be, but she is more a player for a rank between 110 and 150.

i dunno if casey & other players like her would read these things. i would probably say no cause they have this attitude where only themsleves & their coaches would no what they need 2 work on.

shedding a few kilos would probably help her fitness and movement a bit too

Re: Casey Dellacqua - Game for the top 100?

you can reach top100 without much WTAtour success, top100 wins and consistent mental toughness.
if top100 would really be that important to her, a complete 25-50K scheduale, mostly around Asian tournies might be enough for her.
but she's not much of a player, and if she does get into the top100, it would probably mean someone more capable of her is bumped out (which is fair, but tells you my point - she's not a top100 player per se, but she can reach it)

if you have nothing important to say, please do so in non-tennis forum. if you have something you think is important, but is actually rubbish regarding anything other than tennis - please do so in the non-tennis forum. if you have something tennis related to say, but it's actually "OMG, X player is so h0t!1" or "who has the biggest boobs on the wtatour" please do so in menstennisforum, under "wta forum". if you have something important, tennis-related and interesting to say please do so. No one in the world can understand how much tennis means to someone, except another fan.
