Re: Player of the Year from 2000 to 2006?

2000: Venus Williams
2001: Jennifer Capriati
2002: Serena Williams
2003: Justine Henin
2004: Maria Sharapova
2005: Kim Clijsters

Now, I don't remember off the top of my head, but I thought Ana Myskina won something in '04, because of the Fed Cup results.

She was ITF World Champion. It was because of her RG and very consistent/stellar results....Lindsay should have gotten it

Wow... no one has won it twice since 2000!

Would this year be different, or will it continue the run?

Australian Open 2010 Final Result:-
Lost to Serena Williams 4-6, 6-3, 2-6 (Great job, girl! Now prepare for FO!)

Venus should have gotten it in 2001. She defeated capriati 3 times in a row for pete's sake!!! She was robbed!!!!!

Also
Capriati was 56-14
played 17 tourney's and won 3

Venus was 46-5
played in 12 tourney's and won 6

Venus Vs. Capriati
3-0
How was Capritati better

Cappy's #1 ranking meant nothing because Venus had a much better record and year and cappy couldn't defeat Venus that year.

So, Jen got it in 01' over
Venus because she was year end #1?

I know Venus got injured after the Open
and was out for the rest of the season and
ended the year at #3.

Thats the real question, how on earth did Jen win it over Venus in 2001? Venus had equal slams, more titles, winning the H2H, wtf?

Re: Player of the Year from 2000 to 2006?

I think Jennifer didn't end #1 in 01, she clinched the POY award because of her sensational comeback story...

Justine Henin - Unfinished Business "Wimbledon"

Sesil "the thunder" Karatantcheva

Jen got it in 01 because she was more of the STORY of the year. Not the actual player. IF you look at the stats, Venus should have got it.

Jennifer
2 Slams
1 other title
Year End Rank: 2

Venus
2 Slams
4 Other Titles
3-0 vs. Jennifer H2H
Year End Rank: 3

Although Jennifer did perform better at the majors.
