Will the WTA kill off Fed Cup?

From Matthew Cronin -

WTA MOVES TO LEGALIZING ON-COURT COACHING, COACHING FROM STANDS & MOVES TO DOUBLES SUPER TIEBREAK: The tour will continue to test of on-court coaching at all Tier I and Tier II Tour tournaments taking place following the Australian Open and up until Roland Garros next year. The tour also intends to put forth a proposal in the coming months to legalize coaching from the stands, subject to unspecified parameters. Now that proposal, which might be called the "Gabriel Urpi Thesis," would be radical and totally unnecessary, unless a revised on-court coaching proposal eliminates on-court visits from the coaches.
The tour will also continue testing of various new doubles scoring formats, including the testing of no-ad scoring with a 10-point "Super-Tiebreak" in lieu of a third set at Indian Wells and Miami, among other tournaments. Just last year, the women double players didn't think it was going to happen. Now they are going the route of the guys: a counter-revolution.

WILL THE WTA KILL OFF FED CUP? With its intention to give the players more breaks after the Slams, does this mean the tour has turned its back on Fed Cup once and for all? The Fed Cup plays its semis the week after Wimbledon and its final the week after the US Open. No wonder why the major ITF nations are upset.

Re: Will the WTA kill off Fed Cup?

fed cup in its current format will probably be eliminated, i bet they retest the format where they play most of the matches in one week... too bad because i like it how it is

It will always be Arantxa, hall of famer! and martina hingis and kim clijsters - amazing legends
ana ivanovic and the italian girls, especially pennetta (forza azzurre! RG CHAMP FRANCESCA AND FINALIST SARA!)
aga, vika, sam, na in the next tier

Re: Will the WTA kill off Fed Cup?

This coaching thing is such a crock. This sport is supposed encourage mental toughness and fortitude. I try my best not to post inflammatory comments on here or bash any players, but the only word that I can think of right now is "banana." I guess whatever you-know-who wants, you-know-who gets. This is ridiculous. Thanks for continuing to run this sport into the ground, Larry Scott. To quote Craig Packer, "Was it worth it?"

Re: Will the WTA kill off Fed Cup?

the coaching thing is pointless. most of the top players dont use it and some dont even bother to nominate a coach for the system anyway.
it would be a shame to kill off the fed cup. they should revise the format and scheduling so that it is the same as the davis cup.

it would be stupid to kill off fed cup. so many players love fed cup.... it'd be obvious that wta cares more about certain other nations' interests otherwise. fed cup is a personal choice.. if u dont want to play, be like usa and send anything but ur best 4 players.

No it's not. It's just incorperated into the tour calender. It's run by the Inernational Tennis Federation (or ITF) - so no ranking points or prize money are recognized by the wta.

You're right it's not, but to be fair ITF ranking points and prize money are recognized by the WTA. They are one in the same.

There just simply aren't any points earned at all.
