Kim gave up after she won the US OPEN last year

Why can't Kim just be honest? She basically gave up after finally breakingthrough and winning the US OPEN last year. For the longest time tennis experts and fans called Clijsters a choker. Unlike Mauresmo though Clijsters has lost her desire and hunger. She claims "injuries" are her reason to want to retire next year. Why doesn't she just quit now? I mean what's the point playing for another year if she's so clear she wants to quit. I agree with Francesa Schivavone had to say about Clijsters at the Australian Open Clijsters projects too much she's very flaky and very wishy washy. She's also giving up her bread and butter for a man, that a stupid thing to do. There are no guarantees her relationship with this basketball player will last. One day he could cheat on her just like Hewitt did. I think its very foolish to give up her god given talent just for male approval. Kim will regret this decision. But if she wants to quit why not quit now. Why be a flake about it, play with tennis fans and media and say she wants to end next year?

Re: Kim gave up after she won the US OPEN last year

Yeah but some women are pretty desperate for love and male appproval. I doubt Clijsters would even think of quitting if she didn't have a man right now. She should know from her past experiences of dating a fellow athlete that nothing is cemented in stone. She's got a gift that's only for a short period of time. She's in her prime now and to just throw it all away for a man is pretty sad and pathetic. But then Kim's a straight girl so I shouldn't be surprised.

Re: Kim gave up after she won the US OPEN last year

asking her why she doesn't quit now? everyone plans to retire in the future, so why don't they all retire now?

All Kim wanted was to get a slam victory. She achieved that, and now she can do whatever she wants. and how are you so sure she's given up? she made her way to the YEC after a two month layoff from injury. Kim hasn't given up, but has set herself an ultimatum simply because there's more to life than just tennis.

And if your life were gold, how long do you think you'd stay living?

that's possible in any relationship
but she just gives it more chance to succeed by being able to spent more time with him

Re: Kim gave up after she won the US OPEN last year

Kim is giving up tennis coz she's sick of all the injuries and coz she finally wants to have a family. And you call it stupid that she wants to be with the man she truly loves.

i do not think relationship is the only reason kim is giving up.
she is just tired of injuries. she is quite injury prone and it is not easy to actually come back strong after every injury.

it's a combination of all those things that made her decide to play one more year
we have to accept that, eventhough it's not easy
but ppl just need to get off her back for that

Kim doesn't need any more money. She's rich.

Re: Kim gave up after she won the US OPEN last year

It makes me wonder why Venus hasn't given up yet, or Linds. Because both are extremely injury prone. But I guess the family factor is a big key. Also KC loves to have fun, I don't think she's cut out to be this great competitor like a Graf or Henin.

Re: Kim gave up after she won the US OPEN last year

Kim is only 23 why the rush for a family? I am not from Belgium but I don't get the sense of urgency from her? She's got plenty of time to have kids. But to rush into it with a new boyfriend is not smart. And lets say she gets pregnant and her man cheats and her and she's left alone. She can count on her tennis earnings on being able to take care of the child. But to just toss away her career for a man is very sad indeed. She's only 23 and she will regret this later on in her life. I just don't understand you straight girls giving up everything just for the love of a man is not right.

Re: Kim gave up after she won the US OPEN last year

You shouldn't worry about why Kim is the way she is. You can't lead her life for her. Will she regret throwing away potentially more slams, and money by quitting, and becoming Mrs. Whoever, and , perhaps, finding out that life on the tour was far more exciting than changing diapers, and making dinner? Maybe, probably, but that's her problem.

I kinda agree. I have a hard time respecting someone who throws away the chance to be the best in the world at something in order to have babies. It's not as though she couldn't have babies after her career - see Steffi Graf - but, at the end of the day, it's her life and she can do what she wants with it. At least she's got plenty of money so she won't be financially dependent on her man.

I mostly feel sorry for her fans - it must be gutting to have your favourite player retire so young.
