Five years ago, could anyone have predicted..

At the end of the 2001 tennis season, could anyone have predicted....

-Martina Hingis would retire and unretire
-Monica Seles and Jennifer Capriati would both fade into injury induced retirement, without officially retiring
-Injuries would ravage the tour, but Amelie Mauresmo would be mostly healthy
-Serena would have 7 Slam titles in January 2005 and then be out of the top 100 in 2006
-not one American woman would be playing at the year-end championships in 2006
-Justine Henin-Hardenne would win her 4th Grand Slam title before Kim Clijsters won her first
-Mary Carillo would be doing commentary on NBC, CBS AND ESPN!
-Amelie Mauresmo would win her first Grand Slam title without reaching Championship point
-Mary Pierce would be in two Slam finals in 2005
-Jennifer Capriati would lose back to back 3rd set tiebreaks in US Open semifinals
-a pretty blonde, Russian ova would have two slam titles by the end of 06 and make people forget about Anna Kournikova
-a Capriati/Serena match would singlehandidly introduce instant replay
-Elena Dementieva's second serve would become the most entertaining stroke in the history of women's tennis

"I resolve to get arrested for indecent exposure," Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe on 24).

Wow it has been an unpredictable 5 years, I hadn't realised till now.

If you told me in 2001 those things would happen I would have called you crazy!

Serena.....

and we haven't forgotten about Anna, she had a better "game" but Masha is a bigger fighter by like 10000000000000x

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
Serena.

Re: Five years ago, could anyone have predicted..

It's still tennis, very unpredictable. I'm sure that you can make such a list again in 2011.

1. Ana Ivanovic

2. Maria Kirilenko
3. Anastasija Sevastova

LMAO.
I totally remember that. It totally fucked with my head.

Oh, and y'all forgot something:
Lindsay Davenport, who had knee surgery in January 2002, foot surgery in October 2003, would return and end the 2004 and 2005 seasons as the number one player in the world. And even though she's had [another] horrible injury plagued year again, the now 30 year old would still be playing.

Viva Lindsay.

victoria mamarenka
madison keys l johanna konta l maria sharapova l saint karolina pliskova l ana konjuh l naomi osaka l oceane dodin

Re: Five years ago, could anyone have predicted..

You can probably add the disappearance of Dokic, Stevenson, Lucic, and Krasnoroutskaya.

Jelena

NICOLE VAIDISOVA

Dokic - Hantuchova - Zakopalova - Minella - Szavay - Bammer - Safarova
Stanciute - Panova - Gubacsi - Cibulkova - Cirstea - Hofmanova - Cetkovska
