With her sticking good volleys and coming in to the net for entire games, it's only a matter of time before she's got the Rosewater Dish in her trophy case. It was so great to see both girls playing serve-volley tennis at that level again! Congratulations Justine!

There is nothing more beautiful than Evonne Goolagong in full flight moving across a tennis court.

Re: Justine Moves a Step Closer to 5/5

The main four far and away are the slams without a doubt.

Then the YECs are easily the 5th most important even in the WTA calendar but they aren't the 5th slam.

The Olympic Gold Medal is on a par with them I would say. It would be higher but it doesn't have the history and classics of the YECs.

But Justine is still as close as ever to her Career Golden Slam. Which is near but yet too far...

Slams are slams!! there's no doubt about it, but as for me, Winning YEC if not harder(competing with only top 8) is as hard as winning a Slam.

I would still say they are all 6 MOST important tournaments and career accomplishment. 4 Slams+YEC+Olympic Gold

I totally disagree. The Olympic Gold Medal is worth 100 YEC to any player playing on the WTA tour. It's above the YEC imho. If you listen to alot of the players they'll would LOVE to win the GOLD for their country. Justine has a gold medal with all her other slams. AMAZING!

Re: Justine Moves a Step Closer to 5/5

Well, winning gold at the Olympics is something really special. But one gets just one shot every four years. So, in a tennis career one might have the chance three times (if not the team captain makes some stupid choices as I remember BJK doing with regard to Lisa ).

What gets you in the HOF? I guess GS wins, but I am not sure. Regular GS wins are the bread and butter, Olympic gold is the perfect icing on the cake.

Re: Justine Moves a Step Closer to 5/5

how could you not take into account an Olympic Gold Medal?!

An Olympic Gold Medal in tennis puts you in a very special place, because it is the one event in tennis that relates it to all other sports in the World...and we all know the importance of the Olympic Games.

think about it:

to win a grand slam, you have to win 7 matches, but spread out over 2 weeks with the chance to play opponents from low to higher ranking as you progress.

to win the world championships at the end of the year, you must play 5 matches out of 6 days, but having to play at a constant high level all the time because of your peers belonging in your elite group.

but to win an Olympic Gold Medal like Justine did, you must play 6 days in one week and there would be a stretch where you play quarters, semis, and finals back to back.
