They were really dominated by the Russians this year. Interesting that Mauresmo, Henin-Hardenne and Clijsters didn't win a Tier I.

Three of the top 4(yes I am counting Kim) in the world didn't win a Tier 1 and they won 3 out of the 4 slams and only 2 out of the 7 Tier 1's(Kuznetsova, Sharapova) winners even made a Grand Slam semis. Shows how overrated Tier 1 tournaments are although I think Ivanovic was inducted into the tennis hall of fame after winning the Tier 1 in Montreal.

My conclusions:
Woman's tennis is better than man's

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

For the last couple of years, I agree. On the mens side, you've got Federer who is beating everyone; on the womens side, you've got at least 6-8 different players who can contend for slams. (Sharapova, Mauresmo, Henin-Hardenne, Clijsters, Kuznetsova, Hingis, Williams sisters)

Sharapova: 3/1
Petrova: 2/1
Hingis: 1/2
Dementieva: 1/1
Kuzy: 1/0
Chaky: 1/0
Ivanovic: 1/0
Schnyder: 0/1
Clijsters: 0/1
Henin: 0/1
Hantu: 0/1
Safina: 0/1

The most surprising is that Mauresmo & Henin reached so few finals, despite kicking ass at the Grand Slams and being #1 and #2 for most of the year.
