I'm not defending Maria this time BUT........

........why are people saying she held her hand up when she didn't? I went over it five times on YouTube and Maria definitely was facing Peer while she was wiping her face or whatever.

Now do I think the point should have been replayed at that point? Hell yeah, and Maria should at least acknowledged that. The umpire should have also.

And as for Shahar, she wasn't paying attention to it either.

Still though, people are making wayyyyyyyy more out of that than they should be. This clearly was not the same incident as the freaking Justine/Serena French Open incident.

To the hormonal 14 year old's it is. They probably haven't seen the match, let alone gone over it on youtube like anyone rational would do.

No Maria didn't hold her hand up, but she did tell the umpire she was ready when she clearly wasn't.

The thing is both incidents were clearly unprofessional, unsportsman like conduct!

I will have no respect for this kinds of players even if they win 20 slams.

I'm not disagreeing with that and why didn't Shahar catch that. Neither player seemed to be paying attention.

But all I am saying is get the situation right instead of making up crap.

Lol, and isn't it hilarious how barely anyone demonized Sprem for her incident and blamed it solely on the umpire. Here, everyone is blaming Sharapova. The difference is that Sprem played dumb(or if you give her the benefit of the doubt, didn't realized what was going on), while Maria spoke out. But considering the circumstances, I would have thought that taking a point from your opponent in the 2nd set tiebreak in Wimbledon would be worst than taking a point at 3-3 30-15 in the middle of a match in Zurich. Hmmm, is it the people loved that Venus lost or is it that people just hate on Maria? Or is it both?

no i am not talking about a racket or a squirrel, i am talking about the former and future number 1..............
martina hingis!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck Justine Henin Hardenne, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Mary Pierce, and any of my other favorites that I might have forgotten about at this moment.

Exactly - fair is fair. Shahar wasn't paying attention either. People make such a big deal....

Мари́я Ю́рьевна Шара́пова , Јелена Јанковић, Venus Williams.

That incident is so different from this, if yah can blame Sprem you can blame Venus too for not noticing the score.

Oh no I know, and also the umpire should've been doing his job better. Personally I think this is being blown a bit out of proportion. If it happened during the final of the grand slam, that's one thing but 3-3 at 30-15 in a 2nd round match is a bit different

Also Venus did'nt even protest! Do you expect Sprem to protest on her behalf?

People are giving Maria a hard time because she lied, whether you think Peer was in the wring too, it doesn't matter, Sharapova was asked 'Were you ready?', and she said 'Yes', even though she clearly wasn't, that's the problem...

Ivanovic * Kvitova * Serena

I have yet to see the incident but I think that, if Maria lied when she was asked about it, that it's a different issue to Justine's. And not a positive difference.

i've gone over it on youtube as well, and she definitely held her racket up with her right hand.

the point is, she lied to the umpire about not being ready, whether she held up her racket or not.
