Overview - The Race for #1 Player of the Year: Momo vs. Juju vs. Masha vs. Kuzzy
Featuring Amelie Mauresmo, Justine Henin-Hardenne, Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Actually JHH has the best chance at finishing #1, but Sharapova can still surprise everyone.
Race current standings:
1. Henin-Hardenne 3473
2. Mauresmo 2947
3. Sharapova 2802
4. Kuznetsova 2533
Kuznetsova can finish #1 only if she gets a WC for Linz and wins every tournament she plays until the end of the year, including Zurich, and every other contender for #1 doesn't play at the YEC or underperforms there. Looks pretty unlikely.
Mauresmo can finish #1 if she wins the YEC and Justine Henin-Hardenne finishes 4th of her group or doesn't show up there. Unlikely, right now.
Sharapova can finish #1 if Justine doesn't reach the YEC final, and if she wins Zurich, Linz and the YEC. If Justine doesn't show up at the YEC or finishes 4th of her group then Maria needs 752 pts until the end of the year to be #1 for sure.
JHH is #1 for sure if she reaches the YEC final but she just has to show up there to have a good shot at #1.
