Red face Amelie Shoulda Never Played Moscow or Zurich

now she put her YEC chances in jeopardy by injuring her shoulder
I thought she never should have played these tournaments but probably Larry Scott forced her as the #1 player to play these Tier Is
Amelie probably felt responsibility to play so agreed

Mauresmo didn't feel a responsibility to play.
Her best surface is indoors. She felt the possibility to win and sealing the deal on the number one year end ranking.

She is not in possition to seal anything, at most she can reduce the Heninīs advantage.
Right now Amelie is in a difficult position to get the top spot, and i donīt think she will win the YEC, but who knows.

As for the thread starter i dont think Amelie knew this could happen right away, she probably felt a little sore from Moscow and thought that it would be OK by Zurich. Itīs silly to think that a player knowing of being injured puts himself in a position of getting it worse especially going from one tournament to another, you could understand such an effort in a grand slam, later rounds, etc but not like this.

There's pressure on her to play a lot, she's No. 1 in the world! Be careful what you wish for, hon!

These indoor tournaments were a huge opportunity for Amelie to gain points, because she did so poorly last year.. I don't blame her for giving them a go.

If Justine continued to sit out because she was injured and Mauresmo defended her points, then she would have sealed the deal.
I've said for the last 2 months that Justine would still be able to catch up because the odds were still in her favor but Mauresmo with a great indoor season could have changed that.

Unhappy Hope they all recover in time

Let's hope her injury is not too serious so we will be able to see the top three play it out on the court in the YEC without crutches and bandages.

However, I don't think Amelie's injury is as serious as Justine's. Amelie would not have played if it were serious. As a seasoned pro, she knows better, pressure from Larry Scott or not.

OTOH, Justine played in the FedCup Final because she had the weight of her country on her shoulder and that was probably her last appearance there, so her injury was probably much more serious.

We will keep our fingers crossed.

Momo thinks very highly of being year end #1, so I would not be surprised if she showed up (with this injury from the summer that's been flaring up recently) to try and gain as many points as possible.

This I think is very silly because she's had so many injury problems in the past and for the last 2 or so tournies she's been struggling with the shoulder. But, she will still play YEC because she has about 3 weeks to rest that shoulder completely.

Of course, the main reason she played in Moscow and Zurich is to try to nail the YE #1 position.

Life of an athlete is fleeting. So many things can happen that is out of anyone's control. Who knows, she may never get a chance to reach the #1 position again in her Hall of Fame bound career.

but the year-end #1 was so tantalisingly close, so of course she had to play.
oh well.

If both heatly there was no way Mauresmo can reach number one as Henin defends nothing from last year indoors, and now that Mauresmo is injured is very unlikely that Henin loses her top position, especially if she plays the YEC.
