What if?

What if you were playing in the final of Wimbledon: losing 0-6 0-5 0-40 and then your opponent broke his hand and foot, preventing him or her from "serving out" the last point. Would you take the victory?

I think you wouldn't have a choice!!

You'd have to carry that ugly plate around the court whether you'd like to or not... . You could always go 'round on your knees, or just grovel....

But! you'd have to accept it, no matter what!

I'd give my opponent the trophy because I think it would be safe to say that I would have lost, and it wouldn't be fair.

I'd pad myself on the back for wearing him down to the point of physical breakdown and proceed to celebrate in the style of Ivanisevic 2001 by throwing myself to the grass. Flabbergasted.

What would Justine Henin do??

Just wondering!

Perhaps Justine had just raised her hand during her opponent's serve and the server stumbled and fell trying to stop serving, thus breaking her hand and foot!

I would be shocked that I won and very happy. However I would strive to prove to everybody that I could win a Grand Slam without this help ( a la Mauresmo) .

I'd take it, without a doubt.

Though it would be pretty certain, you could not guarantee that they would have won.

Jana Novotna was up 4-1, and serving at 40-30 in the final set of Wimbledon over Graf in 1993. I am sure everyone remembers it vividly.

The only difference between what you describe, and what happened with Novotna is that Jana didn't break her arm or leg. She broke her brain.

And although it was painful to watch, even for Steffi, I am sure she considers that Trophy as much hers as all the others.

I would challenge him to complete the match with us both in wheelchairs, and me with the corresponding hand tied behind my back, rather than accept such a tainted victory.

Of course you would. That's tennis. You don't win the match until the last point!

Мари́я Ю́рьевна Шара́пова , Јелена Јанковић, Venus Williams.

I would take the victory as tennis is a game of endurance (as well as other skills) and I would have been the one who lasted the game.
