What happened to Ferrero??!!!

Did he choked??
Did the occasion overwhelmed him??
Everybody had their money on him.....running away with the French....

The TV announcers kept on saying during the first two sets that he might be injured.. Because they could not just believed that Costa is winning.... and later on...they keep on saying that Costa is getting tense... and in trouble...

Or did the rain delay affected him???

Whatever.. he blew his chance...

No, he and Costa are really brothers and he threw the match. I mean how could someone who played as well as he did all week lose to a known choker?

For those who do not remember, Albert Costa was the only man who defeated Thomus Muster on clay in his golden clay season: when Muster won Monte Carlo, Hamburg, Rome, Roland Garros, Estoril etc, etc ....
Glad you noted that, VLS! I was confident that Albert had a chance at the title based on that knowledge. Ferrero just couldn't snap out of it and paid the price. The jury's out on whether it'll scar his career or not.

CONGRATS ALBERTO!

He thought that beating Agassi and Safin was enough, so he fizzled in the final:P

He did look a bit injured, i thought he wasnt running for the wide angle balls as well as he could have. I heard there were concerns about a slight abdominal strain. But full credit to costa who played well and kept up a good standard all through the match

I wish he didn't mention his injury, it didn't seem to bother him when he was winning. I believe Albert was the better player, he has really steped up his game this year.

ANyone who knows a bloody thing about Ferrero would know that he wasn't moving very well for at least half that match.

He usually covers the court amazingly, but he could hardly run down a drop shot.

He also was serving like crap for a while.

it could have been nerves, and it was certaintly made to look worse by Costa's great play.

But if Ferrero and Costa are both playing well, it wouldn't be a push over match for either guy.

Why would it scar his carreer? Agassi lost his first three slam finals, and was the favourite in ALL of them. He got his ASS kicked by a younger American, and seems to be doign alright for himself.
You'd think that Ferrero had never even won a big match before the way that people are talking.

From someone who has actually bothered to read his interviews, he is taking it quite well - at least for the media anyhow. He gave Costa full credit, and said the injuries likely wouldn't have mattered much. He said he looks forward to the future where he can play mroe finals and get to show his best tennis.

But I'm glad to know that his losing brings so much joy to some of your lives. Something has to.

I should maybe take a pill.

I get very emotional over this topic

Its just that I think he's the greatest thing in the world so it baffles me when people don't agree

Serena y Monica - Ferrero wouldn't do that he wants it too much.

If they were brothers though, like Wertheim said - people would have automotically said "the fix is on!"

Mac implied that the fix was on...just between Alex and Alberto. He and Ferrero are friends too so...?

He implied that Alex and Costa had a fix? teehee

I'm not sure Costa and Ferrero are as buddy buddy as the other two..

That and like I said, Ferrero wants it to bad to throw the match, IMO.

Ferrero is friendly with Alex and Albert but he is not a close friend. He would definitely not fix the match. Is it hard to believe that Albert was just the better player, he did beat Alex and Guga and he has also beat JCF before.

selesfan - I think a lot of people feel that at their respective bests, that Ferrero is the better player.

I agree with that.

However on that day Costa was better. But to say that Ferrero was playing even half decent for the first half the match, is to deny what he is capable of.

Selesfan, thankyou!!! I've never seen such bitterness! Ferrero lost 'cause he couldn't compete. That is all! No offense Juanqui fans, but many of the Juanca fans have been selfish, here is a 21 year old--never did worse than a semifinal at Roland Garros. And Albert Costa, who in his intire existence, hasn't had the success that JC has already had at his green age, and the Mosquito fans can't congragulate Albert and realize that obviously, JC will be back and it's not the end. To expect so much!!!.... Not everyone can be Lleyton and Marat their first time around. Juanqui will be back, Albert played better, give the man a hand and get some sleep
