2002.1 WTA Awards

Ok we've finished the first semester of the year with a glorious French Open win by Serena Williams and it's now time to choose the best players/matches/surprises of those amazing six tennis months.

Categories:
1. Most heart wrenching match: That match which rallies were more than exciting, the whole crowd participating turned the game on a wicked extravaganza and you could never predict who'd win

2. Most disappointing match: That kinda over-hyped match when everybody thought it would be a high-technique very close match and it was instead very easy and filled with errors

3. Most one-sided match: That match which one player took total control and never looked that would lose

4. Biggest upset match: That match which had an UNPREDICTABLE score

5. Best player:
Just the best. Who has played better and achieved more

6. Best junior player:
The junior that has been rising more and proving her potential at the tour tournaments

7. Most disappointing player:
That very good player who has yet to peak this year and has not showed half of her best shape - you can't choose an injured player!

8. Best newcomer:
The most surprising new player of the semester who has already achieved good results

9. Best late-boomer:
The most surprising "old" player of the semester who has already achieved good results

10. Best tournament (results):
That tournament that held the toughest matches and was more exciting than any other

All the best to Anastasia Myskina, Elena Bovina and Svetlana Kuznetsova!
Watch out: Myriam Casanova, Maria Kirilenko and Maria Sharapova!

"I just made the decision that it's now or never..Just, you gotta have this positive self-image of yourself and otherwise, you know, your not gonna survive this life, I mean, you're gonna go through living depressed and sad and not being able to look at yourself and always degrating yourself..You know the most important thing is, is that to love yourself, you know, walk around with your head high and not take anything from anybody!..There's no other way than to just try to be happy, to try to smile, 'cause you know it's just..your wasting time if you're not!"
