Question QUESTION to anyone who knows about Tennis Clothing of the past ;)

Hey, does anyone know what kind of outfits players were wearing in the 1940's and 50's?
I know that in the 30's players wore stuff like linen tweed shorts and woolen socks.

(i just want to know this coz im doing an Art essay on sports design focusing mainly on tennis outfits through the years - what they were made of etc all the way up to just now and stuff for the future)

thanks

well you should read this latest Tennis Week about Gussie Moran. Ted Tingling designed her outfit, and he was a very popular man, and designed many outfits for Evert et al. and way back to the 1930s. Everyone still today remembers Gussie Moran's pants under her dress at Wimbledon Ted Tingling designed for her with ruffles on them.

Floppyshak's on the right track with Ted Tinling. A good library might have one of his books. I'd suggest "white Ladies", which deals mainly with fashion.

Here's a url with info on Gussie:
