If you dont like the tennis your seeing in 2002 here is some advice

quit watching. You complaining isnt going to bring the Hingis era back. Its over!

Watch some other sport. Curling, ping pong, but your complaining on this board solves nothing.

All things evolve including sports.Golf used to be a mediocre sport with hardly any strong power then Tiger Woods came along, Basketball used to be a sport where a dunk wasnt even conceived then there Dr J. The list goes on and on where sports have evolved into something better. Now its time for tennis so get over your pitty and move on.

Venus,Serena,Capriatti,Davenport. Will be the top 4 players for years to come.

I agree that the game needs to evolve to keep up with modern times...however not all change is for the better. I'm not saying anything specific, nor am I talking about anyone specifically. I'll reserve that for a time when we can look back on this era and make a clear headed - level minded - UNBIASED decision.

I am not biased at all. I admitted when Hingis was the best and I can admit when Venus is the best. Some people cant seem to do that.

I think people are just afraid that Venus and Serena are going to take over tennis for good but its not the case. I think Capriatti can be a threat the rest of the year, and when Lindsay gets back she will be a threat as well.

I agree, and let me clarify - the unbiased part was NOT for you directly, so please don't think that.

I think hingis can still be a factor as well as henin, Clijster ,and Mauresmo.Seles and Dokic and Kournikova and Hantuchova because a lot of them are naturally more talented than others

I don't think it will be those 4 for the next years to come.

There are still a lot of good other players who can be dangerous, and many new juniors who will make their entry.

And I don't mind watching Lindsey-Venus, Jennifer-Serena,...

It's only some players I don't like to watch playing against each other (Serena, Dokic, Dementieva, Venus, Lucic,...)cos it does not produce the tennis I like to watch and the quality is most of the time below what you could expect. And this is only when these players play against EACH OTHER. There styles of play have a negative effect on someone else with the same kind of tennis.

TexasTech, the thing is that most people who enjoy power tennis only do so because they like the personalities of the people behind it (Venus/Serena/Capriati). The power players may be dominating Hingis/etc, but that does not mean their style of play is more fun to watch. I don't know about you, but I don't want to watch a tennis match that contains over 100 UEs and only about 20 winners (today's FO final). That is simply sloppy power tennis. Personally, I prefer a happy medium. Players like Henin have one incredibly powerful shot (eg, backhand) but only employ it at key points in a rally. All too often, it seems, players like Venus/Serena/Capriati just hit everything at 100% power and just hope for the best, which makes their tennis appear mindless and far too error prone.

Todays match was an exception. I wish they produced better tennis, but it tough to play a sibling. When i play my best friend in tournaments everything is diffrent. Its all mental. Thats why their were so many errors.

My favortie type of matches so far are Hingis vs. Venus talk about varitey. Beautiful stuff.

I don't see why ppl find it soooooooooo hard to play their siblings the Maleeva sisters did it alot and they seemed to have no problem about it.

selesfan look how close they are. I mean they do everything together they live together they have the same friends they are inseperable. Did you watch the MTV diary of Serena. It should have been named the MTV diary of Serena and Venus thats how close they are. Only one year apart.

I could play my brother with ease just because we are two years apart and dont hang out with each other. If it were my best friend it would be a diffrent story. I would have my problems

I don't like watching two enormous players hit the ball as hard as they can into the net, long, or by their opponent. If you've ever seen a fun "cat and mouse" match, or a match where creativity and shot selection takes over, it is infinitely more fun to watch than even the BEST power player matches, and no one can deny that. It's why I wish there were more players like Hingis. Imagine a Hingis vs. Hingis match.

Obviously I recognize that power wins it all, but it just is not as interesting.

How so? It would be great! So many winners, so few UEs, such creative play.
