Alexandra Stevenson Lost In A 25k

she lost to laura granville 7-6(5),3-6,6-3. this has to be very embarrasing for her I mean it was a 25k she should have dominated this tourny for the most part. she barely squeaked by in the quarters 7-6, 6-4. also she hasn't played a real match in what a month in a half (im not counting french since it didnt seem like she cared much to put an effort) so she sould be ready to play. maybe the whole time she wasnt playing she was practicing but from the looks of these results i would think otherwise.

It is just a game. Too bad for Alex, but I'm sure she'll rebound in time for the big W.

To be honest, I expected Laura to win this, or at least make a match of it. Stevenson probably was not 100% focused on winning this tournament. She was probably thinking about Wimbledon or her other upcoming grass court endeavours. She came into this tournament assuming she would waltz right through it (and for all intensive purposes, she should have.) While Alexandra has gotten better, I think she still lacks the ability to scratch and claw her way through these long matches, particularly when she is not playing her "A" game, However,Laura is actually a fairly decent player. She won a 25K earlier this year, has a huge backhand, and has a good baseline game that works on almost every surface besides clay. It's only a matter of time before she puts it all together in a Sanex event. This particular match goes to show that anything can happen in these tournaments. Anyone who is still bad-mouthing the lack of depth in the womens game really needs to shut up after looking at this result, and the Surbiton tournament in general.

BTW, anyone notice how we haven't heard about one outburst from Samantha in this tournament. Maybe she's making progress as well lol

this is beyond a warm-up. she should be embarassed and ashamed. it was rude of her to play a challenger, a tournament that people count on for not only ranking points to enter higher tournaments, but money! she should have won the tournament w/ her hands tied behind her back, yes, but she shouldn't have even entered at all. she's just bitter that she hasn't had the same wimbledon results since '99.

sorry to offend you alex fans, but this really crosses the line in my opinion.

You have your opinion and I have mine. It seems now that Venus and Serena are 1 and 2, people will now target Alex to pick on. I'm not calling any names, but people should back off Alex some. She has been on the tour only a few years and injured a lot so she needs more time to get her game together. It's not like she has lost as many tournaments as Anna.

lol - anton, no one's lost as many tournaments as anna

its not that i target alex, i just don't think that she's very polite to the players, the fans, etc. not that all the players are, but people like monica really exemplify being a good person - not just a good tennis player. its not that i target her, i just have a tendency to favor good people.

well well i'm happy to see that Alex has plenty of fans. im very suprised i was expecting to come in here and see bashers getting their licks at her for even entering this tourny. and i agree with the majority she will rebound in time for wimby.

first thing, congrats to Laura Granville for the win!!

Second, I think this was exactly the reason Alex entered this small challenger. Would you rather have a few matches under your belt and risk losing earlier in a challenger to hopefully get your grass game together and do better in a larger tournament?

I can see how some would be confused with Alex's decision, but if Alex didnt enter the tournament, Laura wouldn't have come away withmore ranking points. Out of all top 30 (save Davenport), Alex has had the least amount actual match play in the last couple of months.

She lost, she'll get herself together. All in all, it was her decision to make.

So now shes not a good person? Youre taking this game way too seriously. She didnt cross any line because there would have had to been a rule against it for her to do that. She needed matches, she got matches, she got spanked, Laura got bonus points, everyone is happy.
