It's possible, but Monica would have to do really well at Wimbledon, getting to at least the semis.
Also: Since Monica's over 17 tournaments, her lesser results start getting discounted. Her 46 points from Charleston will be dropped after Roland Garros, and after Wimbledon, her 100 points from the U.S. Open will come off. So it won't be easy.
I'm not really erasing her. I'm just daydreaming in stereo. You know wishful thinking and all. I hope for Jenn's sake she's not in Serena's half of the draw. Ooops, that would put her in Venus'... well I hope she's not beaten by a Williams...so that means someone else has to beat her. Who better than Monica...whom she also dissed, or even Lindsay since Cap has obviuosly been missing her.
If the Wimbledon Final is Venus vs Serena, Monica cannot rise above #3. As it currently stands, she is 61 points ahead of Jennifer after Wimbledon. However, she will have to drop another tournament, and her 18th will be 100 points. So Jennifer actually goes in with a 39 point lead.
With grass as her worst surface Monica will probably make the quarters or semi's. I don't really think she can beat either Venus or Serena on grass. Ohh damned. I'm forgetting about Clijsters and Justine. How well would either have to do to to beat Monica to three...sorry to keep troubling you Disposable, but thanks in advance.
Forget Justine. She's got about 1400 points to make up on Monica. Kim would have to win the title to pass Monica. Jelena is in slightly worse shape than Kim. She'd have to win with big points and hope Monica loses early in order to pass her. In other words, as long as Monica's streak of 36 straight 1st round victories stays intact, nobody is going to pass her at Kimbledon.
Please stop dream. Delusions of grandeur can lead to lack of mental clarity. If Monica couldn't do it in her invincible years of '90-92, she doesn't have a hope. She'd need for the Sisters and others to not show up or have a twisted ankle. Ouuch.
