ESPN excerpt on Ms. Manners

from espn.com:
---
Capriati may have been finished, but she wasn't finished screeching or, rather, sniping -- in effect pouring some sour milk upon the heady champagne moment the Williams family was sharing.

"You've got to give them credit (for reaching Nos. 1 and 2)," Jennifer said. "But inevitable? There's a lot of things that happened that got them to this position. If everyone's playing ... (Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis have missed chunks of the season) ... (The sisters) are pretty good with planning things. You know, one plays, one doesn't. You would think (there's) planning behind that. I mean, if you really want your daughters to be 1 and 2, I guess everyone would do that. But mostly it's just because not everyone is in the game ... (Would it have) taken longer? I don't know if it would ever happen at all."

Hey, Jen: You lost (your title). You're out. You and Matt go have a nice time sightseeing.

Inevitability will rear its wondrous head again on Saturday.

Ms. Manners is going to have to work very hard to eliminate the bad reputation that she has earned in the last two years.

aww..Tee Rexx...and you'd been so good about not rubbing it in...Couldn't resist your natural urges though, I see. Very typical.

and btw, Jennifer has not earned a bad reputation (only in a few minds of non-fans). The only thing she needs to be working hard at is finding a way to beat the Williams sisters.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy.

I think it is very disrespectful to the other players on tour to say that Venus and Serena getting to 1 and 2 was "inevitable." It's disrespectful to the sisters as well because they've had to work hard to get where they are now.

As for Capriati's comments, the journalist decided to start some controversy by asking her some annoying questions right after a very tough loss, and she let herself be baited. She should've not said anything, but I don't think these remarks in this situation are particularly noteworthy.

Is Cap's poor behavior ever noteworthy? I mean I could care less what she said. The fact is she lost Serena won. In answer to her what ifs, Serena has an even record against Martina and a winning one against Lindsay...I don't think cap has a winning record against either of these ladies...all this aside.

What does she have to do before one of you to say..."you know...I like her but that just is not acceptable"? She was bitter, I understand it, but it was wrong, how hard is that to say or understand? The press didn't bait her they asked questions that I'm sure stung her ego, but she is the one who chose to answer in the manner she did.

(The press did bait Serena and Venus. They to could have chosen to bite, but they didn't...Well, Serena did a bit with her "if I wasn't hurt during the Australian things might have been different then too" reply. Again she was correct...their record would probably then be 6:0 for the year instead of 5:0 Serena).

Back to the point, when does she become accountable for her actions?

Like I said, Capriati should not have said what she said in her interview, but that's because I disagree with her comments. Personally, I think they still would have reached 1 and 2 even if Hingis and Davenport were not injured. However, if she believes that the absence of Hingis and Davenport has made it easier for them to get to 1 and 2, then saying so isn't wrong, she's just saying what she believes.

Perhaps

Perhaps the loser should consier her own record against Lindsay. It's really not that stellar. And I think that Lindsay said it well last year that Venus should have ended the year as the #1 player. but Venus was out with an injury. So Lindsay did it along with a string of wins (especially over Dokic) and still ended higher than Jennifer. Maybe Jenn should just remember last year.
