Alex's extra grass court practice backfires

Why? Cause its reaing so hard she has only played 1 match on grass all week.

Today in the QF she was almost beaten bt Julie Pullin, scraping through 64 76(5).

Pullin, ranked 148 compared to Alex's 29 would undoubtably have won if the match had been played in grass. The match, however was played on indoor hard courts, which meant that Alex could use her big serve to her advantage.

The question is: if Alex can barely beat a brit indoors, how the hell she she be taken seriously on the grass court season when it is clear she would have been played off the court?

Logic check: A big serve is more valuable on GRASS than even on a indoor court, becasue the ball tends stay low once it hits in the service box. Incidentally, that is why the movement challenged Stevenson had her best GS result on grass.

Look, Stenvenson entered the tourney to get some matches on grass while the French was going on. Stevenson is as capable of winnig a big match as she is losing poorly. What she does at this challenger tournament won't change that. She's doing it for the practice , any player who makes the mistake of taking too much from this does so at their own peril.

Freethinker, it is more than curious why anybody would care enough about a player ranked #29 in the world and trying to get some extra matches in, to question her strategy. There's at least 3 threads with this theme.

pff the thread was closed unfortunately

Freethinker had no more arguements and turned all the deal on a personal row by creating the other thread, tsc tsc.

I pardon you anyway

All the best to Anastasia Myskina, Elena Bovina and Svetlana Kuznetsova!
Watch out: Myriam Casanova, Maria Kirilenko and Maria Sharapova!

Why all this hate on Stevenson?

Leave her alone...

Her loss to Granville will make her work more and she will definitely be better on this grass season.

Larrybid,

People care about the players who actually need this tournament for money and points, *not* a few practice matches. The issue with the #29 ranked player is that she should not be here to begin with because it is not the purpose of 25k challengers.

Freethinker,

I'd really like to see you find all these hateful threads made by Paul and TBE spewing out racism, because I sincerely doubt you will find any. If you want to use racism to defend why someone would disagree with Alexandra's decision, then at least find some evidence to back up your accusation.

Kind of ironic really that she only got in 1 grass match anyway, so her purpose of being here really does seem a waste of time. On top of that, she ended up losing in the semifinals anyway, so on the bright side at least Laura Granville benefits. Hope Alexandra takes a more logical route for grass court matches next year

Freethinker, if you can't deal with people questioning the number 28 in the world entering a challenger, maybe you should just stay in cheering threads??

And btw paul's post was very friendly stated. If you don't agree maybe you could give argumentations instead of implying he's a racist.....

If only I was sure that my head on the door was a dream

Please find this cooment where i am a racist.

I liek Alex, is one fo my top 15 favs, but she shoudlnt be here.

Im happy she lost, i hope she is happy with her £300 - i hope it was worth it.

And well deon julie Pullin, if it wasnt for you Alex would still be here. I hope this sends out a message ot all top players that they cant breeze through challengers.

And anyway, if a player rabked #29 cant win a 25k challneger should seh really be playing tennis?

Paul
