Former French Open champion Anastasia Myskina is battling a foot injury ahead of the US Open, which starts next week.
The Russian was beaten 4-6 6-3 6-4 by Italy's Mara Santangelo in the first round of the WTA event in New Haven.
"Of course I tried hard today but maybe not 100% because it is the US Open next week," said the 25-year-old Myskina.
"I wanted to try to see how my foot feels. It was OK but I will see the doctor. Then I have a few days to get some rest."
Why not pull out of New Haven if she's dealing with a foot injury the week before a GS? She makes no sense to me, it sounds so stupid. So either she's making an excuse for her loss or she's really that stupid to play on an injured foot right before the USO.
