Kim Clijsters writes she will attempt a comeback in Hasselt

The week before the YEC.
Good luck, Kim!

On her website:

Hoping to be able to play in two months 22-08-2006

I'm back in Belgium: a nice welcome by the family, the dogs and ... the bad weather. My wrist is now put into a brace, which I should be using in the next 5 or 6 weeks.

According to the last analysis in Canada the injury should be healed by then, making it possible to play again after two months. I take it I'll be able to be playing the Gaz de France Stars tournament in Hasselt. It would be great to be playing before a home audience as I miss out on the Fed Cup final. It could also mean the perfect preparation for the Masters one week later.

Provided everything goes well, of course. On Wednesday I'll be going on a hospital visit with the x-rays from Canada, and who knows I might have new ones. The medical team here knows the history of my wrist and will probably be able to have the most accurate diagnosis and an idea of the recovery. Which helps planning the rest of this season.

In the meantime I stick to housekeeping...

Keep your thumbs up on Wednesday!

Best,
Kim

If that is the only tounament she plays before the YEC, is she still guaranteed a spot?

Kinda torn if I want her there....the tournament needs some star power and proper champions like her, but , desperately want hingis there too. Well, its down to Hingis to earn her spot through winning i guess!

I had no opinion of her prior to last year. I have really started rooting for Kim in the past year while everyone has jumped off her bandwagon. First off she crushed Pierce in the US Open final. She won 2.2 million dollars last year. That's a lot to someone like Kim who seems simple and secure in the fact that she knows what she wants in life unlike most people. So what is she got satisfied with it. A disinterested Kim still made the Grand Slam semis of every tournament this year. She is helping the Belgian team to the finals. She honors her commitments playing in Fed Cup, and the first 3 tournaments of US Open Series. So what if she lost to Henin at French. Everybody loses to Henin at the French and are discouraged before the match on clay and she played Henin very tough at Wimbledon if anyone had bothered to actually watch the match. And in my mind, she was the favorite to win the US Open and her injury has made this tournament the most wide open Grand Slam since 2004. I felt terrible for her when she got injured cause she could have shut up a lot of people if she repeated at the US Open. It was wide open anyways with Kim, but without her, it's WAY more wide open IMO. There's more to life than tennis. I hope she retires(if that's what she really wants), misses tennis and then comes back and plays for a long time.

Congrats for your post and I particularly agree with the sentence I put in bold.

This sounds like good news.
I hope the masters will still be possible, Kim should always be in the top 8 and has earned her spot there imo, but I guess we'll have to wait and see if it will happen.
I hope she won't come back to early, but I think she'll be carefull enough, she knows what it's like to be injured for an extremely long time...
Good luck Kim!

Thank you! KIM CLIJSTERS FOR EVER MY NUMBER 1

Don't rush Kim. I'm sure we would all be happy for her to miss the rest of this year if we thought she would come back next year full strength.

Always supporting Kim and Svetlana

Good luck Amelie and Justine

Full strength, playing a lot... and getting injured
I hope she stays healthy after this and until end of 2007.
