Nicole Vaidisova 2nd youngest player to enter Top 10 since AER was instaured in 1994

Nicole at 17 years and 3 months is only surpassed by Anna Kournikova who cracked the Top 10 for the first time the month she turned 17

Age Eligibility Rule (AER) was instaured by the WTA in 1994 in order to prevent early burn outs following situations like Capriati's in her early years . The rule was made official in early 1994 but the Tour made an exception with Hingis so she could avoid it and play full time from the beginning of her career

Before Capriati, this was the unofficial "Tracy Austin" rule.

I didn't know about this
Why did they make an exception for her?

Congrats Nicole!!! Impressive!

"I dream of people watching me holding up my third Wimbledon trophy... Most of all I dream of being a good person to all that are inspired by me I dream of having girls, women, boys, men being fond of not only what I have done on the tennis court, or on the big screen or what I design but I dream of what people think of me as a person.
I dream that people think of me as a giving person as a person that
loves life and is fun to be around." - Serena

WTA NEEDED Hingis...can anyone imagine 1997 season without Hingis?

And they were right...she was #1 by the age of 16

Ugh...1997. The year Monica lost to Sandrine Testud in the 3rd round at Wimbledon...ugh! I am still not over that loss.

Actually watched that Seles match live. Yuck. Her tactics were virtually non-existant.

Someone is quietly turning back the clock...to them bulldozer dayz...

Always on the lookout for a great tennis match.
