Most Consecutive GS/WTA Finals

Martina Navratilova reached the final round of 11 Grand Slam events she entered between the 1985 French Open and the 1987 U.S. Open (however, she missed the 1986 Australian Open). That is 7 straight .. skipped 1986 Australian .. then 4 more.

Add in the WTA Tour Championships and Navratilova made it to the final round of 14 consecutive she entered (add in her wins at the March 1985, March 1986 and November 1986 WTA Tour Championships or Virginia Slims Championships).

Monica Seles went to 8 consecutive finals (1991 U.S. Open through 1993 Australian Open) after missing the 1991 Wimbledon. However, she did make it to 11 consecutive that she entered between the 1990 Virginia Slims Championships and the 1993 Australian Open (again, with the only one missing being the 1991 Wimbledon which she skipped).

Navratilova did not skip the 1986 Australian Open. The Australian Open was not held in 1986 because of the change in the calendar to move the Australian from December to January.

Graf holds the Open Era record for most consecutive Grand Slam finals reached (13 straight finals - French Open '87 to French Open '90) followed by Navratilova (11 straight finals - FO '85 to US '87)

Navratilova holds the Open Era record for most consecutive tournament finals (23) with Graf and Seles tied for second place with 22 consecutive tournament finals each.

Best left-right combination by a German (and that includes Max Schmeling): Steffi Graf. All she did in 1987 was knock Navratilova out of #1 and try to knock Evert out of the sport. (Mike Lupica in "The Best and Worst of Tennis in 1987", World Tennis)

"A couple of years ago, we nicknamed Steffi Graf's forehand 'Jaws'. And that music would go perfectly when she starts running in to the net, swarming on that little ball." (JoAnne Russell, during the 1988 Wimbledon final between Graf and Navratilova)

Nope.

For Graf, it would be 8 (French Open 1987 through U.S. Open 1988 before losing to Pam Shriver in the 1988 Virginia Slims Championship semifinals).

Martina Navratilova HOLDS the record for most consecutive GS/WTA finals.

Helen Wills reached the final of every grand slam she entered from 1927 to 1938-17 in all.

She won 16 out the 17

Wills holds the record for winning consecutive slams entered at 14!

What is the title of this thread?

What are the 5 biggest events in women's tennis?

You had better come knowing what we are talking about before you do more of your silly little game of ready, fire and then aim (and in that order)

Tremendous record, tremendous consistency from Monica Seles.

Steffi Graf lost in her first 11 Slams .. Monica Seles lost in her first 3.

Graf needed 22 Slams to win her 8th at 20 years, 3 months.

Seles ONLY needed 14 Slams to win her 8th at 19 years, 1 month.

:retard: --- as in, what a...

Steffi Graf was part of a youth tennis group that was studied from age 12 and then followed, and the scientists called her "the perfect talent" even then. In addition to her many tennis-specific skills, her aerobic capacity was on par with the best distance runners in Europe. --- David Epstein, The Sports Gene
