Why don't people like Alexandra Stevenson?

I myself, am a huge fan.. her personality is so unique and interesting that I couldn't help but to like her. And some people think she is ugly or whatever, but I think she is really cute.. better looking than Jamea & Shenay in my opinion. Her game is also very dangerous when she is playing well.. I just hope she stops getting injured and can show her full potential.

Viva la Alexandra!!

It's mostly because of her mom. Also, she used to say really dumb shit in her interviews when she was younger.

For your dolly Polly sleep has flown
Don't dare let her tremble alone
For the witcher, heartless, cold
Paid in coin of gold
He comes he'll go leave naught behind
But heartache and woe
Deep, deep woe

So.. just because my Mother is schizophrenic and has alot of mental problems means that people shouldn't like ME because of my Mother? That's pretty ridiculous to not like someone because one of their family members are disliked.

And which player hasn't said dumb shit in their interviews when they were younger? Look at Myskina, she is in her mid-20s and she still says dumb shit in her interviews.. but SHE has a ton of fans.

I hate WTAworld.

That's the way it goes. Lots of people don't like Sharapova/Williamses/Dokic either because of their fathers.

IIRC, Myskina has not called anyone "flabby" or "dork". I may be wrong though.

If it's any consolation, dislike of Alexandra predates WTAWorld.

She isn't Venus.
She isn't Serena.
She doesn't shriek very well.
She is not on a "real" comeback.
This is the WTAWorld board.

More than enough reasons to be despised and ridiculed .

People who talk about themselves like they are the second coming of christ when they have very little to back it up are rarely popular. It's not just confined to wtaworld.

yes i do think people are overly critical of her and i find it weird the way they seem to take so much pleasure in her misfortunue, but she does bring a lot of it on herself.

1. She obviously had the talent or we'd
not be speaking of her now.

2. If she ever gets into better shape,
she could be a force once more on the tour.

3. Hey, nothing wrong with self-love and promotion!

Most people talk about her because she is just wasted talent. She could be in the top 10 right now, but she never puts in work she needs to get there. It's hard to respect a player who has so much potential and just waste it. If she doesnt care why should we? If she took better care of her fitness back in 2000-2003 she might have never been injured and become one of the elite tennis players. But she doesnt have the head to go with it, which is why she is thrashed for saying so much ridiculous stuff.

She has talent no doubt but that is not what i consider backing it up. Her Wimbledon semi was a great achievement but ultimately it was the hysteria surrounding who her father turned out to be that made her such a household name.

Well, why in the heck do you think
she maybe feels the need to talk herself up!

Duh!

Stevenson's life, however, has not been the same, nor can it be. All of a sudden people want to know who she is, where she came from and how she feels about the father she never knew. It is a wrenching irony: Throughout her life Alexandra Stevenson was groomed and nurtured for this moment in the sports spotlight. And always her mother tried to protect her from the uncomfortable realities of the family's past. Then, just as she was stepping onto the world stage, it all came crashing into the open.

Is it fair? After all the hard work? The other night there it was again, on television, as the newscaster announced Stevenson's first-round loss in the New Haven Pilot Pen tournament – "Dr. J's daughter" had been eliminated. Like a sudden curse. Whose business it is anyway?

"I hate it," she says hotly over lunch, after practice and a long discussion about her childhood, her ambitions and her life since joining the pro tour in June. "I'm not his daughter. I'm Sam's daughter." She sighs. "Some stupid guard shouted at me, 'Dr. J!' I wanted to punch him." She never would, of course; Stevenson is far too poised, far too . . . nice.

"But you'll get that," she concludes. "I don't like it. I just ignore it. I just have to not listen."
So, forgive the gal if she somehow feels slighted and a need to
talk up "Alexandra", not "Dr.J's daughter", a man
whom she has never known has her "father"
proving blood isn't everything.

I never cared for her, but I do feel sorry for her, she really thought she was going to be a big star like her friends Venus and Serena.

I totally agree with this post. I still follow her results, but I pretty much gave up once she just kept making the wrong choices.

Look I like the fact a lot of players today try to be confident and a little bit cocky if you would in order to pump themselves up. But there is a such thing as overkill and Alex unfortunately is a huge example of it.
