Vera would have lost to Peng today but not for her injury. She lost pretty easily to Clijsters last week (respectable match but the outcome was never in doubt.) Maria looks really strong (physically and mentally.) She is my pick for this tournament and next week's tournament.

Sharapova squeaks through, wouldn't surprise me if there was a little bit of chokage from Vera (or possibly superb fighting from Maria).

Maria 2-6 6-1 7-6(11)

Last time they played on a outdoor hardcourt, Vera won 4-6 6-4 6-4 in Montreal (Tier I).

So it's the same situation Same winner?

Maria in three. I don't think Vera is going to recognize what mistakes she made against Peng quick enough to not do them against Maria.
Maria wasn't great against Bardina but she knows what she needs to do to win.
