Hingis def. Tu 6-2 6-3

Surprised it's not up yet. Good solid match from Martina, served at a low percentage but won a good percentage of both anyway. Vamos next round!

wasn't a typical Hingis vs. a lower ranked player match
Shaking off the rust maybe but needs to get much better if she wants to challenge Kim

i feel like tu is a player hingis should double bagel. perhaps my expectations are too high

I agree to a point, I was just looking for the positives. Tu won 45 points compared to Marti's 65, so she must have pressured Hingis, and Martina was probably rusty. I don't understand why she plays her "worst" tennis after long breaks, but can crush opponents (like Sharapova) after playing 5 weeks in a row.

it's true. i remember in 2002 she blitzed through her first three tournaments, took some time off, and came back to scottsdale only to be double bageled by bedanova. but somehow she always does well in australia, after the winter break??

edit: ooops, she ate one bagel, not two...

A win is a win. We'll take it. Shake that rust off, Tina.

Easy match from Hingis as expected. I'm sure all the rust is gone now, it doesn't take Hingis too long to get accustomed to things.
