Amelie=a first

She is the first player (at least in the open era, if not ever) to win multiple slams who hadn't won a slam by her 25th birthday. She and Capriati are the only multiple slam winners who hadn't won a slam by their 23rd birthdays. That is truly truly remarkable and completely unprecedented in the history of tennis. I mean, I guess it goes to show that a player has not peaked by age 18, or even by age 23. Players can keep improving and getting better in every department until at least 27. Yay Amelie!

This century (so far) has seen older players doing well more than ever before. Sharapova is still the only teenager to win a singles grand slam.

I think we're definitely seeing a changing to trends.

I think that has a lot to do with how physical the game has become, and how complete one has to be win (serve, movement etc.). Very few young players have that yet.
