Navratilova was just on TV talking about the match she and Mark Knowles lost to Ram and Zvonareva. She said that she and Mark were astonished by how well Bepa was playing and he said to her afterwards, "If you play this well why aren't you number one?"

Bepa does seem to have spells where she plays brilliantly. I wonder how far she would have got in singles this year had she been seeded?

Anyway should be an excellent final.

Queted from Wimbledon web site:

Andy Ram and Vera Zvonareva stormed into their first Grand Slam mixed doubles final, overcoming former champions and third seeds Wayne and Cara Black in straight sets.

With an eclectic mix of powerful serves and scintillating net volley points, ninth seeds Ram and Zvonareva proved a formidable partnership, easing through in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

Israeli Ram and Russian Zvonareva looked the brighter of the two partnerships from the start. In the eighth game, Cara Black’s serve stumbled and Ram and Zvonareva had their first two break points.

The Zimbabwean siblings managed to save the first, but could do nothing to prevent 26-year-old Ram converting the second with a stunning net smash after a prolonged rally. The Israeli right-hander then saved a handful of break points in the subsequent game to serve out for the opening set.

In the second set, Black and Black showed their experience with a number of winning net points, breaking Ram and Zvonareva in the fourth game. The Israeli/Russian pair remained determined though, coolly breaking back in the fifth, and the set ended in a tie-break. Ram’s serve – the fastest of which came in at 122 mph – was too much for the Black duo though, and he took the fourth of four match points to secure a spot in the final.

As the pair stood enjoying the rapturous applause from the crowd, Ram light-heartedly pointed at his Russian partner Zvonareva to highlight her part in their victory, but most observers would agree it was the 26-year-old right-hander from Jerusalem who was the decisive factor in the match.

Ram and Zvonareva now face Bob Bryan and Venus Williams in the final.
