Who will be the #1 ranked player by the U.S. Open?

Who do you all think will be the #1 player in the world by the time the U.S. Open begins?

I think its obvious that only Amelie Mauresmo, Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin Hardenne will be in contention for the #1 ranking between Wimbledon and the beginning of the U.S. Open though who do you see in the strongest position to do so?

Should Mauresmo win Wimbledon her ranking points will go up to 3692 while Clijsters will sit at 3377 and Henin Hardenne at 3093. Should Henin-Hardenne win Wimbledon Mauresmo will remain at at #1 with 3484 points, Clijsters clinging to #2 with 3377 and Henin-Hardenne would remain at #3 though her ranking points would move up to 3301.

Should Henin-Hardenne win I think it will be more than likely that she will perform quite well in the lead in tournaments to the U.S. Open and overtake the #1 ranking though if Mauresmo wins it will be much more difficult to leapfrog her to the top.

Therefore, I think the winner of Wimbledon 2006 will designate who the #1 seed going into the U.S. Open will be *I very much doubt Clijsters will make it to #1*.

Your thoughts?

It's Justin, Kim will fall like a fly because she has too many points too defend leading up to and including the US Open, especially if she continues to run into Justin

Clijsters can't be #1 by US Open

i.e

Clijsters:
Stanford - Won (195)
San Diego - QF (75)
Los Angeles - Won (195)
Toronto - Won (300)

Mauresmo
Toronto - SF (135)
New Haven - F (137)

Henin Hardenne
Toronto - F (210)

basically they have these amounts to defend before US Open
Clijsters: 765
Mauresmo: 272
Henin Hardenne: 210

Queen Vee, Super Rena, Krazy Kuzzie

I believe that tomorrow's Wimbledon champion carry that momentum into the Summer hardcourts and will be ranked #1 at the USO.

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
Been around the world, copped all 4 thrice.

So then what word suffices for Graf, who through 1987 to 1993, played 26 slams and reached 21 finals (won 14), the semi-finals three times, the quarters twice. Not once in that period did she lose earlier.

Well I think Amelie and Justine are the two serious contenders and the players with the least points to defend , it all depends on the final today and who can keep fit, to me Amelie at 27 is the fittest top player on tour at the moment, Elena Dementieva is as fit but not in good form....Amelie has always a better chance if a match goes to a 3 sets.....

Amelie - Marcos

You laugh at me because I'm different; I laugh because you're all the same

Maria has very few points to defend this hardcourt season and she says she plans to play 3 US Open series events. There is a strong possibility she could gain some ground, especially if Kim fails to defend.

Мари́я Ю́рьевна Шара́пова , Јелена Јанковић, Venus Williams.
