Watching Tennis in America sucks...

I am getting so pissed off watching the same old players time and time again. When ever a grand slam starts you can be sure of one thing. And that is Roddick & Sharapova. Even during rain delays when they could show someone new, they show recaps of Roddick and Sharapova. Nothing against them personally. But I have only seen Myskina twice in almost 3 years. At the French '04, and at Miami'06. It took a Grand Slam final, and Myskina to play Sharapova for her to get tv coverage. Its a shame that Espn brags about 1000's of hours coverage. And day after day we see about a handfull of the same players time an time again. Ugggghhhhhh

it just makes sense. if myskina doesn't make it to the later rounds often enough to make a name for herself, why should they show her first and second round matches? i don't understand you logic. myskina has had a deep run at ONE major. i like her play, but it just makes sense that we won't see her play unless she plays a TOP TOP player.

roddick's an american guy who has done more than myskina, and he's even ranked higher. and sharapova is a no brainer.

anyway-- i can maybe understand your frustration with not showing anything new during rain delays.

well in australia we rarely get any wta matches outside the slams. sometimes we'll get the semis and the finals of a tournament but that doesn't happen regularly plus usually they show them a week or so late. on the mens side we get all the masters series events. but when it comes to the players they show on tv i'm pretty sure that in most countries the same players are shown over and over again. we never get to see a young up and comer unless they are playing a big name, generally more mens matches are shown as well. back during the australian part of the season i think it was during the medibank int. but we also have the kooyong for men and adelaide (not sure if they're same week or not) but anyway for one of the days they kept putting womens matches on the schedule but not one womens match was shown all day, they aired about 4 or 5 mens matches. it was ridiculous. the other thing is no free to air channel shows RG, they've even cut the 1 hour highlights show (to my knowledge) that they use to have. you think they'd show any australian that played at a slam but no, if someone like stosur or pratt are playing a match (even if they're playing a top player) but their is a better mens match (with no aussie) then they'll show the mens, if there is an aussie playing a womens match at the same time as an aussie playing a mens they always air the mens match. in australia it's so atp biased it's no wonder we have no young female talent (or mens for that matter), they show so little womens tennis that it's almost as if it's non existant compared to the mens.

Go the aussies! stosur!!!
and good luck russians: dementieva, safina, kirilenko, sharapova, kuznetsova, bovina, zvonareva, dushevina.

also good luck to: azarenka, lucic, sprem, vakulenko, vaidisova, safarova, ivanovic, groenefeld, mirza, krajicek, kvitkova, larcher de brito, lisicki.

Roddick vs. Tipsarevic.... :jizzfest:
I can't complain about coverage that we'll get for that match; unless of course they don't show it.

I don't have a problem with Espn showing all of Sharapova's matches. But if you already showed once. Why show it again if there is a rain delay. Show someone else. And Blake still doesn't get much respect. He is by far playing better than Roddick. And Blake is infinitely more entertaining than Roddick. But Espn still thinks that people tune to see this duck hit the ball. Espn really needs some better execs to take over.

If it's any consolation (yeah right) you'll definitely see every James Blake, Venus Williams, and Andre Agassi match as well.

I hope Vaidisova lasts long enough that I'll see an hour of her. Her game seems well suited to grass. And five years from now, somebody has to help Sharapova carry the freight.

Especially the half-English Blake, since Andy Murray will tell you in a minute he's Scottish.

Tennis used to be popular in the US.

Then ESPN got a hold of it.

If you only saw Myskina play 2 times then you must have watched very little tennis.

It used to be all Agassi and Sanpras all the time; Sampras retired. Then it became Agassi and Roddick all the time; Agassi is about to retire...Now it's all Roddick and Sharapova all the time. And to think that Sharapova is not even American.

but she has the looks that are apparently "all-american".

I still don't know WTF that means but it seems to be the popular thing to say to describe her popularity.

I watched Myskina on Friday and Saturday on the tennis channel. If it weren't for the tennis channel, I'd be numbed by coverage.
