Vera Zvonareva. Hometown: Moscow. Age: 21. Current rank: 78. Playing style: ‘‘I admire Andre Agassi for how he changed tennis. He brought fashion to the court and changed his style throughout the years. It’s always fun to watch him.’’ Killer shot: ‘‘My serve, because when I get it right, it’s an ace.’’ Do you have aspirations to design a collection of casual separates and red-carpet attire? ‘‘I think red-carpet attire is fun. I like John Galliano, Roberto Cavalli and lots of others. I would love to design some fancy dresses in bright colors, but I really don’t know how to do it.’’ Dsquared dress. Calvin Klein tank top. Prada visor. Givenchy belt. Gucci shoes.
Dinara Safina. Hometowns: Moscow, Monte Carlo. Age: 20. Current rank: 17. Playing style: ‘‘I’m not one to put on layers of makeup before I go out on court. Of course, I don’t want to look bad, but the first thing I’m thinking about on court is tennis.’’ Killer shot: ‘‘I have an all-around game. My best shot is the backhand down the line or when I have an opportunity to hit a smash out of the court. I love this shot.’’ What has been your greatest on-court moment? ‘‘Last year when I won my first big tournament. I beat Amélie Mauresmo in the final at the Gaz de France in Paris, and of course, the Fed Cup, when Elena Dementieva and I won the doubles. Unfortunately, we didn’t really have a chance to celebrate because we all had to leave the next morning.’’ Azzedine Alaïa minidress.
Nadia Petrova. Hometown: Moscow. Age: 24. Current rank: 5. Playing style: ‘‘Fashion is a part of tennis. That’s what the public likes and wants. They come out to watch, not just because of the quality of tennis but also how the players look.’’ Killer shot: ‘‘I like to take control of the match, dictate the points and put pressure on my opponent. I’m an all-court player who can mix it up. I can play the base line but come in if necessary. My signature shot is probably my serve because of both my height and my power.’’ How practical is a stiletto on the court? ‘‘On a clay court, it could keep you from sliding. [Laughs.] Maybe useful at Wimbledon for making holes for the plants. Also could use them for your serve, to give you some extra height.’’ Gucci polo shirt. Roberto Cavalli shorts. Alexandre Herchcovitch shoes.
Elena Vesnina. Hometown: Sochi, Russia. Age: 19. Current rank: 63. Playing style: ‘‘It is cool to have fashion be a part of the sport. I like fashion, and of course, I like to look good all the time, especially on court. Many players with clothing sponsors wear the same type of clothes, but I try to make things different by accessorizing with earrings or doing my hair differently.’’ Killer shot: ‘‘My backhand into the back fence. It is so hard, and opponents can’t touch it because it’s too high.’’ [Laughs.] Who is your favorite fashion designer? ‘‘I really like Armani jeans. My favorite bags are from Fendi, Salvatore Ferragamo and Gucci. I like shoes by Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu and Dolce & Gabbana.’’ Alexander McQueen tank top, skirt and belt. Pierre Hardy shoes.
Anna Chakvetadze. Hometown: Moscow. Age: 19. Current rank: 31. Playing style: ‘‘It’s good to look good on the court, but I don’t think it’s necessary to wear outfits that look like cocktail dresses. It looks weird to me.’’ Killer shot: ‘‘I would describe myself as a base-line player. I like my backhand, especially my down-the-line shot, because I win a lot of points off of it. And my smash for obvious reasons, especially in doubles.’’ How practical is a stiletto on the court? ‘‘On clay, they would never let us walk. Those heels would destroy the courts and put holes in them.’’ Louis Vuitton minidress. Givenchy shoes.
Anastasia Myskina. Hometown: Moscow. Age: 24. Current rank: 11. Playing style: ‘‘Fashion is very good for tennis; it makes it more interesting. It can be like a fashion show sometimes out there on court.’’ Career goals: ‘‘This year I want to make it into the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships in Madrid and finish the year in the Top 10. Long-term, I want to get back into the Top 5 and maybe even be No.1. Off the court, I just want to be happy; that’s all I need.’’ Would you ever appear in a music video? ‘‘Sure. I’d be in a James Blunt video.’’ Missoni minidress.
