Unhappy The Prize Money / WTA Ranking Points Situation At Birmingham Is An Outrage

Birmingham Tier III - prize money - $175,000 - 56 DRAW
first round (R64) winners will only receive 9 WTA ranking points
second round (R32) winners will only receive 16 WTA ranking points

compare this to:

any $175,000 Tier III with 30 DRAW
first round (R32) winners receive 16 WTA ranking points

any $145,000 Tier IV with 32 DRAW
first round winners receive 12 WTA ranking points

ITF $75,000 with 32 DRAW
first round winners receive 8 points (with hospitality) and 7 points (without hospitality)

Birmingham is ridiculous as the only Tier III w/ 56 draw.

They need to raise $50,000 more per year to bring the prize money up to $225,000 and have it be a Tier IIIA. At least then first round winner will receive 14 points and 2nd round 25 points.

Otherwise, players might as well play an ITF

The only thing that made Birmingham appealing in previous years was that players could rack up bonus points but now those are gone

9 points does not seem like a lot.

bigger draw also means same amount of prize money split between much more players

the points are ridiculous compared to Tier IV and ITFs

I agree. Players should get more points for a tier 3 1st rd win. 9 is not enough. Hell... Some ITF 75Ks + H offer 9 pts for a 1st rd win

The WTA should be ashamed of Tier III's and IV's.
8 grand for making a WTA semi, 4 grand for a QF?

The money stinks. They shouldn't pay below the current Tier II level.

And all Tier I's should pay at least what Indian Wells does.
At least.
