Your faves best wins and worst losses on each surface in your opinion

Here are my 2 faves LenaD and Vee
Dementieva - Best Wins
Hardcourt: US open semi 04 beat Capriati 6-0 2-6 7-6 super final set, Indian wells semi 06 beat JHH 2-6 7-5 7-5(back from 6-2 5-2)

Clay: RG Quaters 04 beat Mauresmo 6-4 6-3 she was just on that day, Fed Cup Final 05 beat Pierce 7-6 2-6 6-1 it was revenge for the US semi

Grass: Wimbledon 02 3rd round beat Majoli 7-5 6-2, Birmingham 03 beat Bartoli 4-6 6-3 6-4 (you can tell she doesnt like grass)

Carpet: Tokyo 06 final beat Hingis 6-2 6-0 it was her good day, Moscow 01 beat Hingis 6-2 6-2 when Hingis was no1 and she took her apart that day

Dementieva - Worst
Hardcourt: Aus Open 06 lost to Schruff 5-7 2-6, just played a nothing match

Clay: RG 02 lost to Fernandez 3-6 6-2 6-3 had a chance that tournament to do great missed an oppurtunity with a poor match

Grass: Wimbledon 04 lost to Kleinova 4-6 6-1 4-6 , Kleinova barely won a match all yr

Carpet: Tokyo 04 lost to Panova 7-6 6-3, horrible

Venus - Best
Hardcourt: US open 00 beat Hingis 6-3 4-6 7-5 a real classic, San Diego 01 beat Seles 6-2 6-3 she was brill that day

Clay: Hamburg 99 beat Pierce 6-0 6-3 obliterating her that day and beating Seles RG 02 6-4 6-3 really clean match frm vee

Grass: Wimbledon 05 Final beat Davenport 4-6 7-6 9-7 just brilliant and Wimbledon 05 Semi beat Sharapova 7-6 6-1, unbelievably intense stuff

Carpet: YEC 02 beat Seles 7-5 6-4 good match

Venus - Worst losses
Hardcourt - Aus Open 06 lost to Pironkova 6-2 0-6 7-9 lots of errors but Tsveti played well i thought too

Clay - RG 05 lost To Karatancheva 3-6 6-1 1-6 just horrendous from vee and the match was poor too neither had more than 10 winners

Grass - Wimbledon 04 lost to Sprem 6-7 6-7, Sprem played well but Vee just wasnt hitting the ball that hard i thought and had chances but the free point was bad

Carpet - Moscow 02 lost to maleeva 6-2 1-6 6-7
So what about your faves

Grassonkova.

Venus - Best
Hardcourt: US open 00 beat Hingis 6-3 4-6 7-5 a real classic, San Diego 01 beat Seles 6-2 6-3 she was brill that day
Absolutely Agree! Vintage Venus Williams--she refused to lose.

Clay: RG 02 beat Seles 6-4 6-3 one of her cleaner clay court battles
Absolutely great. Beat one of the all time clay court greats.

Grass: Wimbledon 05 Final beat Davenport 4-6 7-6 9-7 just brilliant and Wimbledon 05 Semi beat Sharapova 7-6 6-1, unbelievably intense stuff
Enough said. But the match that truly showed her love for tennis and what she is made of was the Wimbledon SF match again Clijsters where she recovered, despite reinjuring her abs. Again, she refused to lose.

Carpet: YEC 02 beat Seles 7-5 6-4 good match
Ok. But Venus on carpet--not that many great memories for me.

Venus - Worst losses
Hardcourt - Aus Open 06 lost to Pironkova 6-2 0-6 7-9 lots of errors but Tsveti played well i thought too
That and 6-1, 6-1 loss to Hingis. Still don't get it!

Clay - RG 05 lost To Karatancheva 3-6 6-1 1-6 just horrendous from vee and the match was poor too neither had more than 10 winners
I'd pick French Open Final '02. Loss her chance to pocket RG crown and opened the door to the Serena Slam.

Grass - Wimbledon 04 lost to Sprem 6-7 6-7, Sprem played well but Vee just wasnt hitting the ball that hard i thought and had chances but the free point was bad
Enough said. Venus always has to make history at Wimbledon.

Carpet - Moscow 02 lost to maleeva 6-2 1-6 6-7
Maleeva really had Venus' number on carpet.

Among the other worse losses were Antwerp Final 2005 and U.S. Open 2005 QF: no reason for her to lose either, being up a set and a break in both.

Martina Hingis
best wins
hard: def. serena 6-2 3-6 8-6 Oz 01 -- best match ever!
def. venus 6-1 4-6 6-3 USO 99 -- better shotmaking, higher quality than 2000

grass: def. novatna 2-6 6-3 6-3 wimbledon '97

clay: def. venus 6-4 7-6 (?) RG 98, gave her a real clay lesson
def. seles FCC 97 7-6 in the third, absolutely stunning match

carpet: def. seles 4-6 6-4 6-4 YEC 2000, superb match, hingis crying at the end
def. sharapova 6-1 6-3 Tokyo 2005, cleanest match since comeback
def. davenport 7-5 in the third in Zurich i believe, or was it filderstat? back in 2000, it was the best match the two have played in their long history, winners everywhere

worst losses
hard: lost to frazier 3-6 3-6 (?) in 2000, just
lost to seles 4-6 2-6 US open 2002, making it obvious that retirement was near

grass: lost to virginia ruano pascual 3-6 1-6 in the most lacklustre match of her career

clay: lost to venus 6-4 5-7 4-6 in rome 2006 in the worst performance of her comeback, playing both passive and sloppy
lost to capriati 4-6 3-6 RG 2001, at that display

carpet: lost to petrova 2-6 2-6 in 2002, right before retirement, still inexcusable

at first I have to find who s my fave, I don t any in particular, I just love THE GAME that's better and every match can be good

I'm trying with Mary, because I had to eat meat because of her... what a painful memory but I also lived great matches

Best wins :

Clay : RG 94 def. Steffi Graf 6/2 6/2

Hard : Indian Wells 2000 : def Serena Williams : 6/2 6/1

Grass : hard to tell : maybe the double bagel over Cargill at Wimbly 2003, that's not so impressive but Mary was in a terrible slump after RG 2003 and that match was the beginning of her come back on her way to the 4th round

Indoor : many matches at the masters : I'd pick the victory over Lindasy last year in LA, that was a good butchery! , but very close are her victories over Hingis , Navratilova, Sabatini and Graf at the same competition!

Worst losses :

a lot of... I'll write the most painful

Clay : Roma 2002 : 6/0 6/0 against Capriati

Hard : Australian Open, 1st round lost to Likhovtseva 6/4 6/4

Grass : losing in straight sets against Tatarkova in 1998 I think

Indoor : end of 2004, terrible stuff ,injured and lost against Mamic, Randriantefy and Zuluaga, can t pick just one...

Doesn't look like too much of a lesson, given the scoreline. Venus was just coming on tour, anyway.

yeah but before the match there was only talk of upset, so a straight-set beating was a nice way to silence the critics

Was 6-3 6-4. And yup it was a tennis lesson, Hingis was always up the whole match, Venus seemed lost all day long, i actually asked myself how Venus made the Rome 98 final a three setter .
