I hope I've done all my calculations right. If I have, then I think it's amazing that we can sit here and say that Monica has a mathematical chance to get to #1 after Roland Garros! It's highly unlikely, and would require a number of upsets to occur, but it feels great even to be able to say it! It's been a long time since she's gotten this close to the very very top and who knows what can happen throughout this tournament.
It would be a virtually impossible feat as it would require Monica to win the tournament by beating either Capriati or Serena in the final (however she would have to depend on Serena not gaining enough bonus points up to the final though). But most unlikely of all, she has to rely on Venus losing in the first round.
Okay, so it was all a lot of wishful thinking! But it is still nice to say that there was that slim chance, even if that slim chance will disappear after the first day or second day of play. Either way, I will be quite happy if she gets back into the top four which she has a great chance of doing.
You also have to remember that Monica has 0 points to defend at Wimbledon when all the others have a lot of points to defend. So if Monica can win either the French or Wimbledon she could become no.1. After the French it's impossible and too soon but after Wimbledon it's a good possiblity!
If Monica can actually win Wimbledon or Roland Garros she isn't going to care if she gets to #1.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.
Monica has tons of points to defend this summer, though, after Wimbledon.

its funny, the #1 ranking is so important all of a sudden I thought hingis and davenport created sour grapes lol! hehe good luck to Monica!!! here's a sentimental wish that she wins her 10th grandslam!!!!!
Monica does have a chance. But if you do any calculations, there's something that needs to be taken into account:
Monica is over 17 tournaments, so some of her other performances are going to get dropped off of her total. It shouldn't really affect her ranking at first, since her lowest result is 46 points from Charleston. The next one is 100 points from the U.S. Open, so that might be a little different.
i don't mind whether she will be no.1 again, i just want eagerly her to win just one more slam befoe the end of her career
