On the importance of sufficient match play

This is probablly a statistical anomaly. But it sure is an arguement for quality over quantity.

Code:
Rank #1 Jennifer Capriati 16 tournaments

Rank #2 Venus Williams 14 tournaments

Rank #3 Serena Williams 12 tournaments

Rank #4 - #20 Average 21 tournaments

Rank #4 - #30 Average 22 tournaments
If Serena ever plays 17 tournaments, we might even get what Monica would call a 'true #1'.

Well, then how does all of that match play explain eight consecutive loses to the WILLIAMS sisters?

The comparison is even more dramatic when you consider
Venus is just 26 points behind Jennifer
and Serena, 581.

** TP for Topaz or TennisPower **

"Playing aggressive tennis ... that's always the way to go, if you ask me." - Venus Williams, May/2002
"Some shots I will hit hard but not every ball. I'm not just using my power." - Serena Williams, Oct/2002

TeeRexx - I think you miss my point. However, as I look at my first post, I realize I didn't explain it well. My point was, all three of them have played less than 17 tournaments, and it isn't hurting them much.

I was comparing Jenn, Venus and Serena to the rest of the tour.

My bad.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

Okay. Does it make more sense now?

I don't think that tells the entire story. You need to compare # of matches as opposed to tournaments.

Kim actually has fewer matches than any of the top 3, so I will include her with them.

Top 4: Averages 28.25 matches
5-20 excluding Lindsay and Nathalie: Averages about 26 matches

So what this really tells you is just how vital the bye is to the health of the tour.
