Serena Williams out of Wimbledon

Just appeared on BBC site...

Serena Williams, 24, has withdrawn from this year's Wimbledon because of an on-going knee problem but insists she is not thinking about retiring yet.

Williams, who won Wimbledon in 2002 and 2003, has not played since her third-round loss to Daniela Hantuchova at the Australian Open in January.

"I want everyone to know that I will be back. I'm more excited than ever to resume when my body's ready," she said.

"These past months have been very frustrating for me personally."

When she announced she wouldn't be playing RG, didn't she say she would be missing Wimbledon as well? Or maybe she said she wouldn't be playing until the fall, or definetly something that confirmed she was out of Wimbledon...?

I think she said she was pulling out of RG but hoped to return for the USO, which basically left the assumption she was out of Wimbledon.

There may have been more recent statements but I don't know.

Hopefully she really IS rehabbing, lifting, getting fit again for her return.

The game is so dull without her personality, game, fighting spirit, etc.

Really as expected. But remember how she cameback after her long lay-off at Miami 2004 - when she won the whole tournament!
