Rome and Paris?

When did the the last champion in Rome go on to win Roland Garros? Monica won against Amelie a few years back, but didn't win RG.

And for all the clever clogs, how many Rome champions won in Paris? I don't know which is why I am asking!

I'm just trying to suss out Martina's chances!

Is the average quarters, semis, final or winer?

Monica did it in 1990. I can't think of anyone else who has done it since.

Justine has never won Rome. She lost to Serena in the final. That was 2002, the only time she has played Rome.

A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening ear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.

I would have to say that in recent times Conchita was the Queen of Rome...only her nerves prevented her from lifting the singles title at Roland Garros

Yes she did! As Bud Collins put it, she did the "Old World Triple" that year - winning in Rome, Paris, and London!

Thanks Marcus.

So Rome is not that much of an omen of success at RG! But look at the 4 names that did it! BIG names!

It shows that winning one of the leadup tournaments to RG counts for nothing really unless your a top player who could be favourite for the tournament, which does'nt show good signs for Petrova and Hingis

Grassonkova.
