I can't belive Monica said that ...

From the French Open website:

The tenth and the last for Monica Seles?

Presently playing in the tournament in Madrid, Monica Seles, former N°1 world champion, said she would perhaps play her tenth and last Roland Garros. At the age of 28, I don't feel like looking ahead. Maybe I'll stop playing at Roland Garros. Seriously, I have no idea. Right now I really like playing, but if I wake up tomorrow morning not liking tennis anymore, I'll stop. It's like asking a 16 yr. old girl why she wants to play, because she wants to be N°1 in the world. The champion admits that the stabbing she experienced in Hamburg in 1993 cut her wings. Easily understandable. Nobody has ever gotten as far as I was before being stabbed. I was losing one match a year. Only Navratilova got that far, she stated

When she said that? I've just read transcript of her chat and she said something totally different. She said she's looking forward playing FO again. And she's saying all the time she's not thinking about retirment. I think this article is not true.

I just don't like that some people are behaving like Monica is not a top-player anymore and they seem they want her to quit tennis as soon as possible. Just because she's 28 years old she should quit tennis? This is so stupid ...

Monica clearly has a short memory. She would lose 5-6 matches per year, even in her best period 1990-1992 period.

Steffi, in 1988-1990 was closer to Martina.

Monica always says when she doesn't feel like playing she'll stop. No change. Just stupid reporters trying to make a story out of the smae question and the same answer for the last five years.

"After all, tomorrow is another day..."

I think Monica has a pretty good memory and this is just what reporters want her to say so they write it ...

I won't have any arguement about Monica in her hey day etc.

But Monica always say if one day she wake up and don't feel like playing more she will quit so in a way, it may well be her last tournament but it can also be that she will be playing tennis for years to come, so nothing new in this interview

FWTT

maybe she said that she lost 1 grand slam match in two years and the journalists made their own story?

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

Yeah, Monica always says that same thing, maybe I'll stop playing after this tournament, maybe I'll keep playing for years. So we've all just got to let go. LOL Que sera, sera.

Well Monica was totally positive that she didnt want to retire just yet from the live chat
I don't think she will retire this year or next, or untill she can't beat the players she wants to.

I can't imagine Monica being ready to retire. I think it's probably another case of a reporter adding/deleting/ creating words to fit a story he/she wants to portray.

She's clearly a fixture in the Top 10 and can cause trouble for any player on the tour. I just don't see retirement for her soon.

Amélie Mauresmo, 2009 GDF Suez, 2007 Proximus Diamond Games, 2006 World No. 1 ,Wimbledon Champion, Proximus Diamond Games, Gaz, Australian Open, 2005 YEC, Advanta Chamionships, Italian Open, Proximus Diamond Games, 2004 World No. 1, Advanta Championships, Generali Linz, Rogers Cup, Italian Open, German Open, 2003 J&S Cup, Advanta Championships, 2002 Rogers AT&T Cup, Dubai Open, 2001 Gaz, Nice, Amelia Island, and Eurocard Ladies German Open, 2000 Adidas International, and 1999 Bratislava Champion

There's a fine line between love and hate; that line is called family!

No one does things exactly the way I want them to. No one ever has. It’s a problem they have!

You people are lookiing way too far into this whole issue. Whenever some one asks Monica when she is going to retire she says the same exact thing. "If I wake up tomorrow not wanting to play, I'll stop." This is just another case of a reporter trying to stur up emotions in her fans, like saying this could be her last French Open which is twisted from what Monica said. In her transcript from the other day she says she loves the competition and that she wants to keep playing. She never ever said anything about quitting. In numerous other articles, for instance when she pulled out of the Baush and Lomb Championships she said that she hopes to be back next year. So this is just another messed up article, where they took Monica's words but used them to make you believe she was going to quit. Maybe if all these stupid reporters quite asking her the same question about retirement there wouldn't be any confusion. How many times can you bring it up?

If you read the AFP article in French, it was reported differently. After she said "Maybe I'll stop after Roland Garros" - she laughed. That's why she started her next sentence with the "Seriously..." - as in "I was just kidding before".

Too much is being read into this. I can't understand why journalists would turn an obvious joke into something like this.
