I'll see what you think before I post my opinion.

SERENA will play more and more for her could be 15-17 events.
VENUS will stay with her usual schedule and take off for school or archeological digs.

Bye.

It would be nice if they played the indoors seasons. They've mostly avoided those tournaments, which is too bad, because I think they would do very well on those fast indoor surfaces. Two tournaments in the fall plus the tour championships -- Venus has only played the Championships once!

If they reach #1 and #2, it will be because they already are playing more.

That may be, DH, but Serena could reach #2 with just 12 tournaments. And Venus will also have room to add to her points total if she reaches 3rd round at RG and becomes #1.

I think it will be awful. Watching play against each other is not exciting at all....they definitely do not give it their all like they do in other matches. But if they wanted to be #1 and #2...its time to grow up and pay up. Don't cheat the fans.

I think that the amount they play this year will be the most we ever see them play. I'm not saying they'll play less next year but I doubt they'll play more.

Full credit to the sisters for keeping their promises and playing more, but we all know they're only playing more this year to get the top rankings. They certainly don't need the money.

Once they've achieved that the only real incentive will be to knock each other off the top spot and judging by how reluctant they are to play each other I don't imagine they'll care too much about that.

they'll play as much as they need to in order to remain #'s 1 & 2. and not a match more...

#1 and #2 can be addictive. So, I agree with Tennischick. But that translates to me into more tourneys as the field which is already strong, will get stronger with a revitalized Davenport, a reborn Hingis (?) and a maturing new crop.

Well since most of my opinion has already been stated in various posts, I will state it myself. I think they will play more if they become #'s 1 and 2 in the world.

Being the top two players is addictive and it comes with many benefits. It will allow them to play more tournaments together since they'll be assured of being on opposite sides of the draw. So, they'll travel together and keep each other company. As an added bonus, they'll have a lot more negotiation power should they choose to consider additional endorsement offers.

But to stay at the top will continue to be increasingly difficult in today's very competitive field. I don't think that 12 tournaments will be enough to claim #2 once Lindsay and Hingis return and some of the other players find their games. They will have to play more. But not to worry, I recall Venus saying last summer that she felt reaching #1 required a level of commitment that she wasn't prepared to make at the time. Now it appears she's ready.

I think they'll play just enough to maintain the number 1 ranking... not much more in other words.

VENUS
Serena
Lindsay Jelena Maria

Mary : Monica : Svetlana : Sania : Jennifer : Amelie
Roddick : Grosjean : David : Djokovic

Serena seems so psychotically competitive (a la Graf, Connors, Hewitt) that I think she will continue to play at least the same amount of tournaments. She seems fully determined to be atop the rankings.

On the other hand, Venus' approach seems more subtle and casual as she approaches the game with a methodical and businesslike attitude. I am not quite sure her decisions to play more will be influenced by ranking. (It must be nice to know that you can beat anybody else on the tour, regardless of seeding).
