strangest product endorsement

What's the oddest or most unusual product a player/players have endorsed?

I remember the Williams sisters endorsed Wrigleys, and Lindsay endorsed Rolex.. both seem a little random to me. Have there been any other non-tennis type endorsements?

I haven't seen it, but someone once mentioned on rst that Chris Evert's sister, Jeanne, did a commercial for American Express in which she had to say something like, "My sister has made a fortune with her serve...... For the rest of us there's American Express." (The bit about Chrissie making a fortune with her serve would be hysterical to anyone who ever saw her serve.)

Best left-right combination by a German (and that includes Max Schmeling): Steffi Graf. All she did in 1987 was knock Navratilova out of #1 and try to knock Evert out of the sport. (Mike Lupica in "The Best and Worst of Tennis in 1987", World Tennis)

"A couple of years ago, we nicknamed Steffi Graf's forehand 'Jaws'. And that music would go perfectly when she starts running in to the net, swarming on that little ball." (JoAnne Russell, during the 1988 Wimbledon final between Graf and Navratilova)

The wrigleys commercial was not that unusual in the sense that they usually talk about doubling your pleasure to emphasize the fact that you get twice the pleasure from the gum. With Venus and Serena you not only get to see one play but you double the pleasure by seeing both.

this is not really women's tennis, but the most hilarious endorsement by a play waqs Mikhail Youzhny's endorsement of chupa-chups.

I thought the sisters were PERFECT for Wrigleys with the "double your pleasure" theme

Oh, and not to forget Martina Navratilova doing a commercial for SUVs a while ago. It was a bit strange; one minute she'd probably be talking about the environment and chastising people for not doing enough to protect it, and the next minute she'd be advertising the use of those gas guzzlers. In her defence, Navratilova never had the kind of endorsements she should have when she was the #1 player, so maybe we should excuse her for that temporary lapse in judgment.

Jennifer Capriati, as a 16 year-old, endorsing Oil of Olay. It just struck me as totally ridiculous to have a product that promise to help women keep their skin "looking young" being hyped by someone who's skin WAS young.

Reason is poor propaganda when opposed by the yammering, unceasing lies of shrewd and evil and self-serving men.

I'd endorse cat litter if the money was right.

Ah yes - they were the days when Oil of Olay was called Oil of Ulay and when Cif was known as Jif!

RIP Elena Baltacha, thank you for dedicating your life to a sport we all love. You'll be missed but never forgotten.
