Women's tennis will be fine for years to come as long as WTA...

... gets ATP to have more tournaments together (like Slams, IW, NASDAQ)... Otherwise, it'll become a third rate sport for hard core fans only.

It's not only about who wins, but about quality of tennis. Unfortunately, tennis in women's matches is getting uglier.

Just compare IW men's semis and finals to women's to see what I'm talking about... And that's pretty match happens in every tournament (US Open 05 and AO 06) come to mind.

The WTA needs something big outside the 4 ITF majors. So people notice it.
I think they should give slam money at Miami, over $1 mill to the winner.
Make it a huge event.

I think it's "big" enough-- only problem is that a lot of too players are spoiled and couldn't be bothered to show up at a non-Slam event

Venus: US Open Champ (2000, 2001) Wimbledon Champ (2000, 2001, 2005, 2007)

I thought both women's semi finals were extremely exciting matches and the crowd agreed. Too many UEs, though, no question about that. But the crowds were excited in the semis, despite the fact that no American women were playing. the ladies final left something to be desired, though, but that has been the case in ladies finals for some time now. Only last year's Wimbledon was a really good match.

It really isn't a bad thing to have mixed-events.

It can be beneficial as ATP fans can have the chance to see WTA matches and vice-versa. ATP/WTA events also tend to put on mixed-doubles exhibtion matches which is good for the fans.

I think the WTA needs pre-tournament hype.
No one even knows the tour just played Indian Wells.

They need the non-tennis media to notice them.
That's why they should have a huge money event.
No one cares about Tier I's and II's.
They need a reason to get attention.

You are totally deluded. Attend one of these tournaments and you will see that the number of fans watching Lena D. vs. Sania match (in a huge stadium) is less than watching Nadal first round doubles in a tiny grandstand (essentially stands).

Maybe it's only true for USA as I go to US based tournaments only, but I've been to US Open, NASDAQ, IW, Pilot Pen (last year) and it's pretty much the same story.

sorry sweetheart, but they do have a lot of hype and promotion. What they need (and I do not know how to achieve it) is some quality tennis. Sure women's matches might have drama, but quality of tennis seems low (ue upon ue upon ue).

Sounds like a few of my fellow Hingis fans are a bit bitter about the semis.

If you meant me, I was very satisfied with semis as 3 out of 4 are my favourites and the last one WAS my favourite up until AO 2006.

No, you mean:

Roger

Nadal

Safin
Bagdatis

Roddick
Ferrero
(Interestingly enough, you left off Blake who is ranked higher than Ferrero and Safin. I'm wondering if you hate him for the same reason you hate Serena).
