sharapova, how would you rate her improvement?

maria has obviously made huge improvements to her game, and its now that theyre all coming together and starting to shine threw. this week her back hand was on fire aswell as her forehand, her footwork was fab, and so was her movement and defense. but what impressed me most was her patience especially against hingis, maria didnt try to win the points too early and in a result she hardly made any ue. she moved hingis around the court well and turned offense into attack with ferocious cross court back hands and forehands. she stepped up into the court a lot, which also impressed me, and she really is starting to move forward more. all of this is probably coming together after maria now has finally stopped growing and has adjusted her body, and her speed around the court can now only improve.

also i think its funny how all of a sudden since losing to hingis in tokyo she has started to play so much better. i think hingis gave maria a wake up call when looking at maria herselves own tactics in matches. maria probably thought after that match why did i lose, when i know i have the weapons to beat her. well maria for sure did improve and even now i think has more of a plan B to be more patient to step up more, or be more defensive. all this can only mean good things for miss sharapova, and talk of future dominence seems a lot more obvious and clearer if she continues to improve(im sure she will). also with winning indian wells she has gained a lot of confidence, and i for one thinks she deserved it 100%!

but guys whay has impressed you most in this tournie about maria?

First of all I'm very impressed by the way she moves. She runs and defends extremly well now. Moreover she's getting more and more consistent in baseline and come to the net

its also worth mentioning that its only a matter of time now before she beats justine kim and mauresmo, and she doesnt have much problems with anyone else who is always on the tour(although did struggle against venus i dont think she would as much now)

It's hard to just pick one thing, she's improved in several areas, foot speed, shot selection, transition to net game, comfort at net, patience in rallies, almost everything.

It's funny but they just reaired the second set of the IW final today and I swear I thought Elena's grunts sounded louder. I know Elena grunts while Maria screams, but for some reason, whatever noise Elena made sounded louder than Maria's noises. It could be that Maria was not giving it her all in her grunting/screaming as she didn't really have to work and fight that hard to win. It was certainly not the most intense of matches.

Anyway, in terms of the thread question, I am just impressed with the seeming desire by Maria to improve her game all around. Her IW run proved how much hard work she has been putting in in order to step up her game. She's moving in a lot more and she's defending better and better. In her match against Martina, her defense in some of the rallies surprised me. She hit shots from defensive positions I didn't expect her to make. She's willing to learn and grow as a player. This is good news from a fan's perspective and a good step in the right direction for Maria if she wants to really become a great tennis champion.

Maria Sharapova

That’s the girl with the blond hair who shouldn’t wear shorts because they make her thighs look big?

No, she's the same as she has been...no noticeble improvement...I watched her matches.

And I stand by my statement that there were better players in this draw than SHarapova.

Go Ai, Venus, Na, Tamarine!
