It's official: Serena will need a wild card to play in Roland Garros this year.

With her withdrawing from Miami and not entering Amelia Island this year, Serena will fall to around #137 when those points come off. Even if she plays some red clay tune-ups, she won't be able to get her ranking up in time because the entry lists are done several weeks on advance.

I think it's fairly obvious that she'll get a wild card into Roland Garros (can you imagine if they made her play qualies?!?), but does anyone else find it sad that it's gotten to this point...Serena Williams out of the top 100? I hope she figures out whatever she wants to do with her life and makes a full commitment to it. It's sad to see her floundering like this.

I'm not sad. A little more dedication to tennis and she wouldn't have found herself in this situation. In fact, I do hope they will make to play qualies to realize that nobody owes her anything.

Like Martina Hingis, you mean?

Serena Williams has never played a qualie in her life, and she never will.

She did play a few in the very begining of her career.

It's unfortunate, but hardly sad. If you don't play, your ranking drops. If she were playing badly, I'd be concerned. Not playing because of an injury is rather a tour norm these days.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

They will give her a wildcard. That would be the right thing to do, because she is a former champion. I wonder if she will play the French Open this year though. Anyway, I wish her the best and for her to get healthy again.

Sugiyama, Tu, Morigami, Srebotnik, Rubin, Pironkova, Chan, Razzano

it isn't an injury though, if i've interpreted what she had said properly...i thought she just said she wasn't ready to play top level tennis, i've been away all week on vacation so don't really know all the facts, but that's what i thought the situation was

It will always be Arantxa, hall of famer! and martina hingis and kim clijsters - amazing legends
ana ivanovic and the italian girls, especially pennetta (forza azzurre! RG CHAMP FRANCESCA AND FINALIST SARA!)
aga, vika, sam, na in the next tier
