Cliff Drysdale must be sobbing right about now.

Some quotes from him during the ED / JHH match.

When Mary Jo said 'Elena told me she's trying to hit her second serve as if it's a first serve and I said to myself "oh ok" Cliff replies - and i'm NOT kidding: "Why didn't you tell her it was the dumbest idea in the world?"

"She's got be embarrased right about now"

"Three double faults in one game. There's not much else to say Mary, is there?"

all that while praising JHH up and down.

LOL ! I love it ! What an asshole !!!!!

well he is an ass..But Lena was trying to do it and wasnt working..then she sensed justine wasnt as sharp on return and she actually started putting safe serves..Lots of 1st serves in but all in range of 88 or 86 mph even sometimes 78 mph..And it worked.. So I think actually drysdale was saying the right thing but went too far...

i mean really, what broadcaster would call a player "dumb" ?
let alone a world class, top 10-er who won a tier I a few weeks ago.
Guess who got the last laugh, Cliffie ?

I realize that it was a figure of speech and if you can't realize I was being sarcastic, you have the mental capacity of a 5 year old...and look back at your own post, he never called her dumb.

He called her IDEA dumb-- big difference. Example: Trying to hit a second serve ace match point down at 8-9 in the third set when your opponent is passed out on the court would be a DUMB idea-- Even if you're Hingis, Federer or Einstein.

Haven't you been watching tennis long enough to know that this kind of talk ALWAYS takes place when a top player is being beaten by another top player handly? And frankly, at that stage of the match--Cliff was right. Elena couldn't have been playing smart tennis, and she was embarrasing herself. Three double faults in any game DOES SAY A LOT...

So frankly, I don't understand what the big deal is...

I think I would prefer another 'sexualized' thread to these kinds of pointless posts...
