I already love Elena

She just did all the right things. Wasn't pretty, but boy did she play solid.

Elena amazes me, the way she can win matches against top players while not playing anywhere near her best.

Highly underrated.

It's a weird tournament for Lena....she doesn't seem to be in particularly great form, and was in danger of losing in almost every round, yet here she is n the final.

Team DR 2016 - Bouchard Sharapova Cibulkova Sloane Kerber Lisicki Vesnina Pironkova Hlavackova

Team DR Hall of Fame: Dementieva Kirilenko Domachowska Kournikova Dokic Tulyagonova Harkleroad

I was thinking she needed a Graf like offensive moment to win but she actually did it the harder way hanging in there with Justine till Justine gave out.

A very educational day. Justine has limits. Elena can beat top players in tight 2004 like matches even if she isn't quite at her 2004 level.

Even stirred memories of Mary Jo and Gabi.......

Lena winning the title would be even better. I would be very sad if she didn't, please Lena beat Sharapova.

She provides unlimited drama. Against no names, top seeds whatever. No one has any idea whether she'll win or lose, whether she'll hit 10 second serve aces or double faults, or anything.

Who said women's tennis was too predictable?

I must honestly say that today she made me admire her fighting spirit. such a lousy serve, topped by great confidence in her ability to hang with some of the best. I like that she is not embarrassed by her serve, just frustrated with it, and for the first time, i actually felt sympathy for her. Go, Elena! win the whole darn thing. Those ground strokes are

Elena's best definitely isn't her "2004 level"
