If Amelie becomes #1 before RG...

...it will be the first time since May 2004 that #1 and the title of the latest Grand Slam champion belong to the same person. For instance, right now Clijsters is #1 while Mauresmo won the latest slam. The previous person to hold both #1 and the GS title was JHH (from Nov.2003 to May 2004).

I'm glad that this doesn't happen all the time. It should help people learn that whoever won the most recent slam is NOT automatically the best current player. There's a whole season for a reason.

I take it you have blocked out the entire serena run to the the serena slam! she was no. 1 after wimby 2002, which she held till just after wimby 2003.

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

I thought you were going to say, if Amelie is the number one seed @ RG - she will be under a lot of pressure, or increased pressure.

But anyway... quite interesting. Even better if she becomes the first players in AGES to win 2 slams in a row. It's been about 2 years now.

A month after the original post Amelie does become #1 and the latest Grand Slam title holder at the same time. First one to do so in almost 2 years.

who carese about the season.
my old argument there is a defference between a jobb and a sport.
these days endless menaingless playing in all sprrts.
All thqat matters arre the events where everyone in the sport participates.
Olympics
soccer World Cup leagues are mianingless buy players buy teame
tennis the Grand Slam Tournaments the rest is greatly inferior in set up and competion.
buys what a bunch of unfair shit.
