My comments:

Shahar PEER:

One of the best new comer in 2005 (from n183 to n45), she started 2006 with her 1rst victory on the tour and a ranking record! As 4th seed, she won Pattaya Tier IV $170K with a victory over Jelena Kostanic n69 who is playing really good after a disastrous 2005 where she lost 50 places in the ranking (former best at n35)

Tsvetana PIRONKOVA:
That young bulgarian hope had a nice run in Paris Tier II $600K where she reached the 2nd round in the main draw as a qualifer! She beat Lucie Safarova (n31) in the Main draw before loosing to eventual semi finalist 4th seed/n9 Patty Schnyder.

Ivana LISJAK:

New ranking record for that young croatian girl who qualified for the main draw in Paris Tier II $600K. In the qualies, she ousted the 7th seed/n99 and won 2 other matches before loosing to Vera Dushevina (n46)

Aleksandra WOZNIAK:
Aleksandra keeps rising in the world ranking. She's up 10 places this week with a 2nd round in Pattaya Tier IV $170K after qualifying upsetting 4th seed/n127 Yuliana Fedak in the last round of the qualies and Na Li (n63) before loosing to eventual semi finalist 5th seed/n47 Nuria Llagostera Vives.

Vasilisa BARDINA:
Another russian girl who's starting to make noise on the tour, she's on the way to the Top 150 now with a final in Midland $75K Challenger last week. She ousted the 2nd seed/n60 Meghann Shaughnessy and the 3rd seed/n85 Jamea Jackson before loosing to 6th seed/n150 champion Maria Emilia Salerni.

Olga POUTCHKOVA:
The second russian who did pretty well in Midland $75K challenger reaching the semi final. She ousted the 5th seed/n138 Edina Gallovits and created the biggest upset and best victory for her with a win over 1rst seed/n42 Laura Ganville before loosing to eventual champion 6th seed/n140 Maria Emilia Salerni.

Christina BARROIS:
Christina reaches her highest ranking thanks to a victory in Belfort $25K challenger 2 weeks ago. She was one of the expected winner in Belfort as 4th seed and got the victory over former belgium prodigy Kirsten Flipkens (seeded 7/n210)

FASTER MOVERS IN THE TOP 10, 20, 50, 100, 150, 200

TOP 10:
No change

TOP 20:
Elena LIKHOVTSEVA n17 (+1), Ana Ivanovic n18 (+1) and Nathalie DECHY n19 (+1):
All of that girls benefit from Dinara Safina sliding to n20 because she lost her crown in Paris Tier II $600K.

TOP 50:
Jelena KOSTANIC n50 (+19):
Jelena is back in the Top 50. After a very bad 2005 year on the tour where she lost around 50 spots in the world ranking, Jelena is starting 2006 with new ambition and good confidence. She's got a 11-4 win/loss record and a race ranking at n15! Last week she reached her 2nd final on the tour (after Helsinki Tier IV 2003) in Pattaya Tier IV $170K. She ousted the 5th seed/n47 Nuria Llagostera Vives before loosing to Shahar Peer (4th seed/n45).

TOP 100:
Emilie LOIT n54 (+13):
A bit like Jelena, Emilie Loit wants to forget 2005, and she seems to play with good confidence in the early 2006. She was all the more motivated last week because she was playing at home (she's training in the TCP, 5 minutes from the Stade Pierre de Coubertin). In Paris, she reached the Quater Final ousting n41 Roberta Vinci before loosing to eventual runner up 2nd seed/n6 Mary Pierce in a very close match (2 tie breaks).
Tsvetana PIRONKOVA n76 (+13): see above

TOP 150:
Maria Emilia SALERNI n114 (+26):
With a victory in Midland $75K challenger, Maria Emilia is now 19 spots from her former best ranking (nearly 4 years ago!).

TOP 200:
Vasilisa BARDINA n157 (+34):
see above

HOPE YOU'LL ENJOY IT, AND DON'T HESITATE TO COMMENT!!

Thx Fredbdx

KOUKALOVA Klara -Czech Republic -23 y.o -former best ranking:29 -NEW:28
PEER Shahar -Israel -18 y.o -former best ranking:41 -NEW:36

I think those two will steer things up in 2006. And Jelena Kostanic. Emma Laine is another interesting prospect - hopefully not a one-season (or one tournament) wonder. I do not have a clue what to think about Tsvetana Pironkova.

And I would be really happy, if Emilie had a good season.

Wink Thanks!

Thanks to all of view!!

Concerning Shahar Peer, I'm sure that she's one of the girl to follow this year...she's really talentuous, hard hitter and I was not surprised to see her winning her 1rst tournement on the tour.

Klara Koukalova..I think it's different, she's a good player with smart groundstrokes...but no real weapons on her game. I think it would be a good chalenge for her to brak the Top 25.

Well Frederica Piedade is now Top 150, she told to the media that she wants to break the Top 100 this year. She made half of the job now, but of course it's going to be tougher for her to rise from 150 to 100...however let's see how she's going to play in the coming months.

Emilie is really on the good way, I saw her play in Paris last week against Mary and I was really impressed even if Mary didn't play her best. She's really fit and she needs to be because she likes to hit winners on her foerhand on the backhand side. She did it really well against Mary and I think that she also made a lot of work on her serve which is starting to be dangerous.

I haven't seed Jelena Kostanic playing since the beginning of the year...But the results are pretty impressive and I think that she's on the good way. That's really funny because Jelena and Emilie have almost the same game: big forehands and slice backhands.
